Dental Tribune Middle East & Africa Edition | September-October 2014 1Blab tribune Aiham Farah. CDT Technical Training Consultant Near East & Orient IvoclarVivadent Email:aiham.farah@ivoclarvi- vadent.com Contact Information Dental Technicians are more than just trained hands By Aiham Farah, Syria I n a time when material and machining capabilities are improving drastically, and the cost of the technology itself continues to decrease while its ease of use and predictability increase. And when 59% of the patients approaching the dental clinics are concerned about es- thetics in the first place, do you believe that the skilled ceramist who can provide the finishing artistic and esthetic touches re- quired for esthetic zone can be skipped? The answer is NO. Because qual- ity of the final esthetics from ma- chining alone is still marginal. Function, biology, phonetic, or treatment plan based on a team- work approach can’t be managed by machines alone. Besides com- puterized machines generate a big failure if not driven by human brain. Brain is behind those trained hands of a skilled dental techni- cian. That brings creative solu- tions, and creative solutions for critical clinical cases need reli- able material. Dental manufac- turers recognized this from the beginning. And for that reason directed a big share of informa- tion flow and communication supportive tools toward the den- tal laboratory. Teamwork approach, material science, and artistic touches, are all behind those trained hands, and most important of all is the knowledge coming from various sources, books, articles, study clubs, lectures, conferences.. Etc. That will not only improve our daily performance, but it will train our eyes to see esthetic bet- ter, and will give us the motiva- tion and peer pressure needed to never stop pursuing flawless es- thetic results. Dentistry is in transition period, especially in our Middle East region. We need to thank those who recognized this fact and re- acted to it, the people behind the non-stop education, around-the- year scientific conferences and seminars, behind the on-site in- ternational expertise, behind all the courses and classes, and to the constant support and invest- ment from the international den- tal manufactures, believing that training requires acquisition of knowledge and skills. In our (Lab Tribune) corner, we will always continue, to bring the level of dental technology to the next level. In every issue, we will discuss a certain topic, and dif- ferent experience, we’ll solve a problem or troubleshoot it; we’ll bring up a failed case and high- light how we can turn it into suc- cessful case. We will make this corner a real tribune to show the world our dental technology level and our passion and vision to make the difference. Attention Dental Technicians!
