The award ceremony was held recently in the Aalto Theat- er in Essen. Zirconium oxide restora- tions can be sintered in less than 15 minutes using induction technol- ogy. Bensheim/Salzburg. The “effi- cient interplay between the CEREC SpeedFire’s open and closed shape and rounded and straight lines” im- pressed the 41-member jury of the annual Red Dot Awards. The “dra- matic tension” this created led to the awardforthesinteringfurnaceinthe “LifeScienceandMedicine”category. The award ceremony was held at the Red Dot Gala on July 4, 2016 in the Aalto Theater in Essen. The CEREC SpeedFire induction furnace, which hasbeenavailableforfivemonths,is part of the CEREC Zirconia workflow that now enables dentists to offer their patients chairside restorations using the high-performance mate- rial zirconium oxide. The compact and user-friendly device combines the sintering and finalization pro- cess (glazing), making it unique on the market. Both processes take just a few minutes. A crown, for example, can be sintered in 10–15 minutes and glazed in nine min- utes. Its connection to the sys- tem provides the furnace with all the necessary information on the material, colour, type andsizeofrestorationviathe CEREC software of Dentsply Sirona CAD/CAM. Based on this information, the furnace gets the right pro- gram for the restoration. An impor- tant benefit: The intuitive handling of the software makes all processes easy – there is no need for any spe- cialtrainingorlongpracticesessions. The smallest and fastest sintering furnace on the market has become very popular with dentists in just a short time with the 1000th Dent- sply Sirona CEREC furnace having already been manufactured. Out- standing products, design concepts, and communication designs have been awarded the globally acknowl- edgedRedDotAwardsince1954.This year, the jury, which is made up of independent designers, design pro- fessors, and journalists, will evalu- ate a total of 5,214 products from 57 countries in 31 categories.
