However, this effect is considered a side-effect and not the primary reason for using this periodontal surgery. According to the patient’s needs, it may be performed with an open- flap or a flapless procedure and may be associated with hard- and soft-tissue grafting. Further studies are still needed to evaluate indications, contra-indications and risks. The procedures described here will certainly evolve and improve with the improvement of the materials, devices and appliances utilised.
