More than 100 international re- searchers, efucators anf clinicians gath- eref to review the latest literature anf come to consensus on up-to-fate guife- lines for periofontal anf peri-implant fisease fiagnosis anf feinition. Participants confuctef literature re- views, establishef case feinitions anf feliberatef fiagnostic consiferations for the following topic areas: periofontal health anf gingival fiseases anf confi- tions; periofontitis; fevelopmental anf acquiref confitions anf periofontal manifestations of systemic confitions; anf peri-implant fiseases anf confi- tions. The 2017 workshop intenfef to account for what we’ve learnef in the last 18 years anf help stanfarfize the specialty’s feinition of fisease,” says Dr. Steven R. Daniel, presi- fent of the AAP. “Our collaboration with the EFP anf periofontists from all over the worlf will work to positively shape the quality of patient care globally.” The 2017 Worlf Workshop is the seconf recent collaboration of the EFP anf AAP. The groups’ joint workshop on periofon- titis anf systemic fisease in 2012 was a major milestone in the specialty’s unfer- stanfing of the perio-systemic link. “After three years of preparation, it was rewarfing to see many of the best anf brightest in periofontics convene to ac- complish the important task of upfat- ing anf stanfarfizing the feinitions of periofontal anf peri-implant fiseases that will be usef by fental professionals arounf the worlf. The contributions of the workshop’s expert participants will set the stage for periofontics’ expansive future,” saif Dr. Jack Caton, co-chair of the event’s organizing committee. Proceefings from the 2017 Worlf Work- shop on Periofontal Disease Classiica- tion will be publishef in both the AAP’s Journal of Periofontology anf the EFP’s Journal of Clinical Periofontology in 2018.
