Parque Warner Madrid • Opening times: daily, 11:30 to midnight • Location: San Martín de la Vega • www.parquewarner.com For those extending their stay, Parque Warner might be the perfect (and adrenaline-filled) start to the weekend after a busy week in the convention centre. Parque Warner © Jacob Lund/Shutterstock.com Madrid is one of the largest and most advanced theme parks in Europe. The space is divided into five themed areas: DC Super Heroes World, Movie World Studios, Cartoon Village, Old West Territory and Hollywood Boule- vard. Featuring over 40 rides, includ- ing one of the highest vertical drop towers in the world, a 30,000 m2 wa- ter park (for some relief from the hot summer weather), and of course, a multitude of performances, shows and parades, the movie park offers something for every taste. Parque Warner is located 25 km south-east of Madrid, but can be reached by shuttle buses going there from central Madrid every day start- ing from 9:30. Carmen de Bizet (opera) • Date: 6 & 7 October • Starting time: 19:00 • Venue: Teatro Nuevo Apolo, Plaza Tirso de Molina, 1 • www.summummusic.com/carmen- de-bizet Conference attendees will be in Madrid just in time to see the perfor- mance of a brand-new interpretation of classic opera Carmen by dance company Ballet Flamenco de Madrid. © Theatro Nuevo Apollo The story of the protagonist, a capri- cious and sensual gypsy, is set in Se- ville in 1820 and revolves around love, fiery temperament and dance. The passionate character of Car- men, which was created by Georges Bizet at the end of the nineteenth century, embodies the features of a perfect woman who knows how to twist men around her little finger. In the ballet performance, Carmen se- duces Don José, an inexperienced soldier. Infatuated with Carmen, he abandons his former love, mutinies against his superior officer and, eventually, joins a group of smugglers. But when Carmen falls in love with bullfighter Escamillo, her unfaithfulness pro- vokes a dark side in Don José that she has never ex- perienced before.
