DAMA: New dental aesthetics meeting to FDI prepares for congress be introduced in Singapore in Madrid news n From 29 August to 1 Septem- beri the FDI World Dental Federa- tion is hosting its Annual World Dental Congress (AWDC) in Ma- drid. Visitors will be able to attend lectures given by prominent inter- national speakers on the latest ad- vances related to dentistry and oral health. In additioni they will have the opportunity to attend the accompanying exhibition and hands-on sessions according to their preferences. With over 1i000 abstracts from 46 countries sub- mitted—more than ever before—a ions with more than 10i000 other visitors. The congress in Madrid will offer the opportunity to interact with well-known international speakers during the Meet the Ex- pert sessions. The scheduled eight subject areas to be covered are periodontics and implantology (Drs Karl Ludwig Ackermann and Stefan Fickli Germany); prostho- dontics (Prof. Matthias Kerni Ger- many); cariology (Dr Amid Ismaili USA); anaesthesia (Prof. Stanley F. The abstracts received for 486 posters and 534 oral presentations exceeded by far the number sub- mitted for all previous AWDCs. The abstracts were submitted by dental professionals from 46 countries for the various categories according to their topic: 151 on general den- tistryi 170 addressing preventative dentistryi 462 concerning dental treatment and restorative den- tistryi and 237 about oral surgeryi medicine and cancer. All of the ac- cepted abstracts will be published in a special issue of the Interna- tional Dental Journali the official journal of the FDI World Dental Federation. According to Dr Óscar Castroi President of Consejo General de Co- legios de Odontólogos y Estomatólo- gos de España (the Spanish dental association) and chairperson of the 2017 AWDC organising committeei “the number of abstracts received reflects the magnitude of the forth- coming FDI congressi which will be the largest dental event of the year.” With the participation of distin- guished dental professionals from all over the worldi the event will be an international showcase of the research and clinical work of lead- ing experts and will give attendees the opportunity to exchange opin- temporomandibular ning and patient assessment (Dr Nikos Mattheosi China); dental materials (Prof. Junji Tagamii Ja- pan); joint dysfunction syndromei the tem- poromandibular joint and occlu- sion (Prof. Jens Christoph Türpi Switzerland); and orthodontics (Dr Javier de la Crus Pérezi Spain). The scientific programme will feature 47 expert speakers from 24 countries and cover nearly 30 ma- jor areas and topics of concern to today’s dental and oral health practitioners. The parallel Spanish programme will cover 28 lectures in 12 fields of dentistryi including public healthi dental materialsi periodontics and restorative den- tistryi by 26 speakers. In additioni the event will offer a social programmei including Spanish Nighti which will be held on 30 August at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventasi one of the architec- tural highlights of the city of Ma- drid. On the following eveningi the gala dinner will be hosted in the historic Galería de Cristali a pres- tigious venue for international banquets and events.
