Photos/Provided by National Dental Association NDA 104th convention features top speakers The 104th Annual Convention of the National Dental Association (NDA) will convene July 19-23, at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas. The NDA, one of the old- est professional associations in America, describes itself as the premier dental organization for ethnic minorities, rep- resenting more than 10,000 oral health professionals. Product and resource center The NDA promotes oral health equity among people of color through advocacy, mentoring dental students and commu- nity outreach. The annual convention features C.E., a state-of-the-art product and resource center and a variety of net- working opportunities for oral health students and veteran professionals alike. Oral health professionals from across the country will gather at the annual meeting to learn the latest dental tech- niques and practice management so- lutions. Workshops will cover topics such as opioid addiction, concussion syndrome, practice management, in- terprofessional training and care, local anesthesia and surgical updates and the impact of the Affordable Care Act on den- tistry. Featured keynote speakers include the Madow Brothers; Dr. Edna Kane Wil- liams, senior vice president of AARP; Dr. Harry Johnson, president and CEO of the MLK Foundation; and Dr. Anissa Holmes, CEO of Delivering WOW. Dr. Kim B. Perry, NDA’s 93rd president, said, “The NDA is off to an excellent start in 2017, addressing issues that impact communities and dental professionals of color. AGD2017 also will be the first year for: • One-Hour Lectures, featuring more than 90 courses. Topics include emergen- cy medicine, CAD/CAM bridges, practice management and dental sleep medicine. • AGD Student and New Dentist Lounge, with VIP access to C.E. sessions, a career fair and mentorship networking events. • “Wine” Down with Experts, with end- of-the-day refreshments and one-on-one time with speakers and colleagues. • Women’s Leadership Panel & Lun- cheon, with women leaders from dental associations across the globe. Exhibit hall The AGD2017 exhibit hall will feature hundreds of vendors showcasing the most current technologies and services in the field of general dentistry. Attend- ees also will find free education lectures and entertainment. Exhibit hall hours are July 13: 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., July 14: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and July 15: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each day the exhibit hall is open, time will be dedicated to attendees who wish to visit without missing one of their fa- vorite courses. The dedicated hours will be on July 13 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and on July 14 and 15 from noon to 2 p.m. Following his Thursday morning key- note address, materials scientist Mark Miodownik, PhD, will be in the exhibit hall to sign copies of his book “Stuff Mat- ters: Exploring the Marvelous Materials That Shape Our Man-Made World.” AGD Resource Pavilion At the AGD Resource Pavilion, AGD staff will be on hand to answer questions re- lated to membership. The resource pa- vilion will also feature information on: new and updated online tools; AGD’s advocacy efforts on issues specific to general dentistry; educational programs featured in the AGD Online Learning Center; information on the fellowship and mastership awards; and other exclu- sive members’ benefits such as the AGD Member Savings and Offers program and AGD publications.
