Because of the COVID- 19 pandemic, capacity is limited, but the event will be livestreamed for those watching at home. The fellowship and mastership awards and the LLSR designation are AGD’s highest honors. The fellowship award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest quality of dental care by remaining current in their profession. To receive this honor, dentists must complete 500 hours of continuing dental education, pass a comprehensive exam and ful- fill three years of continuous member- ship in the AGD. For AGD’s mastership award, den- tists must earn their fellowship award and complete an additional 1,100 hours of continuing dental education. Dentists who have earned fellowship or mastership from AGD make up a distinct group — they represent less than 1 percent of all general dentists practicing in the United States and Canada. The LLSR award is formal recogni- tion for AGD masters in the areas of continuing education, dental-related community service and service to organized dentistry. The keynote speaker for AGD2021 is motivational speaker Scott Bur- rows, known for his miraculous come- back from two tragic life-altering accidents. At the age of 19, Burrows was a college wide receiver at Florida State University and a top-ranked kick- boxing black belt champion. This all changed when, as a passenger in a friend’s car, he was in a automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down and diagnosed a quad- riplegic. Despite having his promising ath- letic career cut short, Burrows did not let this event define his life. After half a year of physical ther- apy and battling life-threatening complications, Burrows returned to college and graduated with a bach- elor of science in finance. He also began competing with other world- class disabled athletes in full-contact wheelchair rugby, a Paralympic sport also known as Murderball. At the height of his career, Bur- rows was involved in another severe automobile accident that forced him to re-evaluate, re-invent and re-ignite his life. It was at this time he walked away from a successful career in order to share his unique story with the world. At AGD2021, Burrows will speak on the concepts of vision, mindset and grit to life while inspiring attendees to create a mindset of hopefulness and growth of their own.
