The theme of this year’s Yankee is “In- spiring Innovation,” which according to the organizers exemplifies how dental professionals can get inspired by indus- try-leading speakers and innovative continuing education opportunities for clinical development to energize their passions and fuel advances in the dental field. Among the education highlights this year, “The Morning Huddle” at Yankee will feature a course on “Science and Strategies for Managing Oral Systemic Inflammation.” Seventy percent of all deaths in the United States are caused by chronic disease, with chronic inflamma- tion playing a key role in many of these conditions. This course will detail strat- egies for maintaining optimum overall health and decreasing inflammation. An interprofessional symposium “Eat- ing Disorders: Food for Thought” will review the diagnosis and treatment process for eating disorders, including dental restorative treatment — all with a focus on multidisciplinary communica- tion between the various providers who treat patients with a history of bulimia. “Human Resource Management Essen- tials” will follow the entire life cycle of an employee — from hiring to managing — to outline the best practices every prac- tice owner and manager needs to know. Yankee also will feature a special track of courses for new dentists designed to help them learn from experienced prac- titioners and network with their peers. The “Yankee C.E. Recharged” program offers continuing education with an up- scale premium format. On Friday, Feb. 1, Henry Schein Dental will immerse at- tendees in digital and esthetic dentistry, and Colgate will explain how to provide whole-mouth health through coaching. Along with more than 300 continu- ing education and hands-on courses and events presented by leading experts in the dental profession, Yankee is bringing together dental peers and industry ex- perts for a day of sharing programs and clinical practices. Each track will begin with its own respective plenary session, titled “10 Years After.” “The idea to have a session ‘10 Years After’ means asking why you have changed, if you have changed, your practice, your protocols and your indica- tions,” said Dr. Franck Renouard, 2019 an- nual program committee chair. “We will ask different speakers both in surgery and prosthetics what they did then and what they do now.” Moderators for “10 Years After” will include: Edward Sevetz Jr., DMD, for the Surgical track and AO Past President Ste- phen Parel, DDS, for the Prosthetic track. Surgical topics will include vertical and lateral ridge augmentation; full maxil- lary reconstruction; and augmentation using biologics. For the prosthetic track, Parel, will moderate a series of seven topics, including zirconium and screw retained prosthesis; overdenture; and tilted implants. Following the morning plenary ses- sions, in the afternoon each of the tracks will continue return to the science that underpins implant dentistry, featuring sessions on peri-implant bone biology. The surgical track includes “Osseoin- tegration: Restoration of Homeostasis or a Foreign Body Response?“ and “Soft Tissue Integration: What is our Current Understanding?” The prosthetic track includes “The Evo- lution of Complex Maxillofacial Rehabili- tation” and “Current Thought in Restor- ative Ceramics” Titled “Current Factors in Clinical Ex- cellence,” AO’s 34th Annual Meeting, will be held from March 13-16, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Wash- ington, D.C. More information about the meeting and online registration can be accessed at www.ao2019.osseo.org. (Source: Academy of Osseointegration)
