About Dentistry in the Czech Republic: we study for 5 years to become dentists. We have 5 faculties in: Olomouc, Brno, Pilsen, Prague and Hradec Králové. All of them are public and free of charge. Each year they accept about 300 new dental students. When we finish our studies, we can open a dental clinic (but most of us don’t do it because we need to learn more!) or we can work at some clinics. In total we have about 9 000 dentists working in the Czech Republic which is an accurate number. But honestly there is lack of dentists in most small cities and in some specific regions, because many students stay in big cities after they NOVEMBER2017 graduate. We have two specialization programs - Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Surgery. Unfortunately if our students want to study different things, they have to go abroad. All Czech dentists are members of Czech Dental Chamber. a lot of new trainers who learned many things about soft skills and they also got to know Prague much better! Then we offer workshops, lectures, preventive programs and many other activities for our Czech students. We also have our magazine which is given to all our members for free - twice a year! Nothing would be possible without our sponsors that support us a lot! Last but not least we do not forget about social activities - such as balls, parties, trips and so on. Our Czech Dental Student Association was established in 2000. We are becoming more and more active every year. Now we have more than 1 700 members! We are members of IADS and EDSA. We organize many dental events in the Czech Republic, currently 4 out of 5 faculties offer IADS clinical exchanges. The biggest event of the year is the International Dental Student Congress which is held each year in Brno in spring. Next year we will have the 7th year of such an event where we accept about 200 dental students from all over the world! We already chose a date for our next congress - 7. 3. - 11. 3. 2018! Our lecturers will be Czech and also international top speakers and our congress includes many great workshops as well as lectures and social activities such as a gala night or an exchange fair. Last year we welcomed for example Prof. Krejci from Switzerland or Prof. Mangani from Italy. We accommodate students in a 4-star hotel in the city centre and we also provide them with food and transportation during the whole congress. So get ready!
