INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF DENTAL STUDENTS No. 1, 2017

NOVEMBER2017 Republic Currently we have more than 10 million inhabitants in the Czech Republic. The capital and the biggest city is Prague. The second biggest city is Brno and the third one is Ostrava. We speak Czech - which is quite a difficult language for all foreigners. Czech people might seem cold, but when you get to know them and become their friend, they will love you forever. We have many different places to visit. We would suggest you: Český Krumlov, Lednice, Adršpašské skály (rocks) or Czech-Saxon Switzerland! And you can also come during winter and try skiing or snowboarding in many Czech mountains! During summer you can expect very hot weather - we can have about 30-40 degrees but during winter expect snow and cold weather - even up to -25 degrees! The Czech Republic became independent in 1993 when we separated from Slovakia (Czechoslovakia), now they call us Czechia, too. Our country is a parliamentary constitutional republic. We are members of the EU (since 2004) and NATO. We have only about 78 000 square kilometers. We have our own currency called Czech crown (koruna). We are located in Central Europe - sometimes they call us “the heart of Europe”! The Czech Republic includes three historical territories: Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. We produce a lot of beer - many people say it is the best beer in the world! We used to have our cars - Škoda (now they belong to Germany) and Baťa company (shoes) was also founded in our country! Czech crystal is also known all over the world! 11
