It is a contin- uation of our commitment to foster advancement and exchange of knowl- edge and skills in dentistry. Since the success of the fi rst HKIDEAS in 2010, the event has be- come one of the most important meetings for the dental community in the region. In addition to serving as a start- ing point to foster exchange through which the strengths and needs in the oral health sector of the respec- tive countries can be identifi ed, the organisers believe that the initiative m o c . k c o t s r e t t u h S / e l u k a h ©  The Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (or Belt and Road Initiative) is a devel- opment strategy initiated by the Chi- nese government. With reference to the historic Silk Road, it focuses on connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries. At this year’s HKIDEAS, the Hong Kong Dental As- sociation (HKDA) is hosting the Inau- gural Belt and Road Oral Health Summit to foster exchange and coop- eration between Hong Kong’s dental professionals and their counterparts from countries along these routes. With presentations by oral health experts and representatives, the summit will give an overview of the current local developments regard- ing the dental profession and the oral health strategies in partici- pating countries. According to the HKDA, it is hoped that the summit will generate synergies and enable both Hong Kong itself and the rele- and broaden cooperation in many areas of importance to the future of dentistry. It is thus fi tting that the theme of this year’s programme is “New horizon in dentistry”. At this year’s event, the exchange of ideas, continuing education and the pres- entation of new research in vari- ous fi elds of dentistry takes centre stage. Running concurrently with the scientifi c programme, the trade exhi- bition showcases the most advanced technologies and products. With your participation, I am confi dent that the congress will be a great success. Let’s join hands to ensure the continued advancement and success of the dental profession. We hope all of you will have a meaningful and fruitful meeting in Hong Kong! will benefi t both the local dental pro- fession and its counterparts along the belt and road by identifying key areas that necessitate improvement. Depending on their actual situa- tion, participating countries may high- light their experience in various ar- eas related to dentistry, such as dental education, workforce status and plan- ning, market supply of advanced den- tal equipment and technology, dental laboratory service, infection control, and the current state of dental ser- vices for underprivileged and vulner- able populations. By taking the lead, the summit seeks to promote Hong Kong’s role as the super-connector and hence fur- ther advance the international status of the Hong Kong dental profession, HKDA stressed. The summit takes place on 6 Au- gust from 9:00 to 12:45 in meeting room S428 at the Hong Kong Con- vention and Exhibition Centre.
