Dental manufacturer and distributor Zfx is presenting a number of innovations at this year’s IDS. (cid:26) today: What are the Zfx highlights at this year’s IDS? Zfx has many highlights at the show. The first is the Zfx Inhouse5x milling machine, which focuses on im- plant restorations. Customers who al- ready own a basic system and would now like to produce more and invest a little more can obtain an upgrade at no more than €100,000. The wet milling unit can process composite, zirconia and glass-ceramics, as well as cobalt– chromium and titanium. is The second highlight the Pre-Abutment Multi-Blank Holder. This allows simultaneous clamping of the heads of 12 pre-abutment blanks from a variety of manufacturers and production of the abutments via five- axis milling. Prefabricated abutments can therefore be made overnight. In collaboration with Merz Dental, we have developed a new generation of the existing Baltic Denture System, namely Baltic Denture System BDCreator PLUS. Independent of exo- cad and 3Shape, the customer can take an impression using Merz trays, which we then import into the soft- ware to impart a complete range of prosthetic features. When it comes out of the machine, it can be polished im- mediately and the prosthesis is fin- ished. Another highlight is the Encode Converter, developed in collaboration with Zimmer Biomet. Zimmer Biomet has a patent on the encode healing caps, which can be scanned and con- verted. We have exclusively integrated this tool into our software for our us- ers. Dentists can scan an impression or send it to the laboratory, and the laboratory can match, convert and even produce it themselves. How have visitors responded to the products? Customers are thrilled. For exam- ple, the use of the milling machine with different materials is being demonstrated at every workstation at our stand, where visitors can discuss it with our specialists, and this has been very well received. What are Zfx’s plans for the rest of the year? Baltic Denture System BDCreator PLUS is only the first step for full den- tures. This year, we are continuing to develop it with a view to immediate restoration after implantation. Our own implant guide for Zimmer Biomet implants is another item on the agenda and, of course, we intend collaborating with other implant manufacturers re- garding this. A real achievement for us is that we are now a distributor of the iTero (Align Technology) and True Definition (3M) scanners and are de- lighted about these partnerships. Thank you for speaking with us! (cid:26) AD Discover the clinic of your dreams! German court issues preliminary injunction against MegaGen An interview with Straumann CEO Marco Gadola (cid:132) On Thursday, a German court is- sued a preliminary injunction against MegaGen and its CEO, Dr Kwang Bum Park, ordering them to desist from pro- moting defamatory remarks about Straumann in a recent interview at the IDS. In that interview Dr Park made defamatory concerning Straumann’s approach to ethical busi- ness, customer satisfaction, product development and patient outcomes. In this interview Straumann CEO Marco Gadola reacts to these statements. remarks ers two years ago. But when we excercised the option to convert the bonds into shares, they were unwilling to fulfill their ob- ligations and claimed that the agreement they had signed was unreasonable. They therefore went to arbitration. Such action is bad business practice and ru- ined the partnership spirit. We lost confidence in the compa- ny’s leadership and the sustain- ability of the business. today: What is Straumann’s position regarding the withdrawal of invest- ment in MegaGen? Marco Gadola: When MegaGen needed money, its owners invited us to invest in their company. We purchased convertible bonds and they contractu- ally agreed to sell us further shares in order to obtain a controlling stake. Our relationship was characterised by a col- laborative spirit of partnership and their distributors used our reputation to increase their business. The mechanism for determining the conversion share price was docu- mented and accepted by the sharehold- The long delay caused by the arbitration process was not in the interest of either com- pany and together with other re- cent developments, it made the business case unattractive. We were disappointed, because our intention had been to invest fur- ther to grow MegaGen’s interna- tional business, just as we have done very successfully with Neodent. Instead of partnering we now compete against each other and have made it clear that the Straumann name does not stand behind MegaGen and must not be used to endorse their products or busi- ness in any way. (cid:25)Marco Gadola. Owing to our need to expand quickly in the fast-growing non-pre- mium segment in China, India, Russia and Eastern Europe, we have invested in strong partners like Anthogyr, Equi- nox Medentika and Zinedent. The Straumann Group brand, our shared technology platform and global net- work offer them considerable leverage and we are very excited about the op- portunities that our partnership with them is creating. We therefore no lon- ger need MegaGen as a strategic part- ner. 14 37th International Dental Show 2017 · 25. März 25 March What is Straumann’s plan for 2017? The global implant market is cur- rently showing overall growth. Among them, the Asian and Latin American markets are showing rapid development owing to economic growth and an aging population. In addition to implants, prosthetics and digital solutions are also expected to open up various possibilities for growth. One of our strategic priorities is to expand in exciting new growth markets, for example in Russia, India, the Middle East, and Africa. Our non-premium brands will be useful for this. We also want to drive our pre- mium Straumann business, for exam- ple by providing complete solutions for dentists, labs and patients. In this regard we will launch a number of in- novative products and solutions espe- cially in the field of digital dentistry this year, with the general goal of mak- ing treatment simpler, faster, more predictable and convenient, as well as affordable and less invasive. Thank you for the interview. (cid:26)
