A HOLISTIC CONCEPT FOR BIO-AESTHETICS AND FUNCTION FROM EDELWEISS DENTISTRY (cid:132) Edelweiss dentistry is a dental think-tank that conceptualises and produces innovative systematic solu- tions that are developed together with partners from the dental indus- try and marketed exclusively via its dental distribution network. Its VENEER and OCCLUSIONVD are state-of-the-art solutions for modern and minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry, as they make it possible for clinicians to work with prefabricated veneers made from a nano-hybrid composite using modern laser tech- nology. Never before has it been fea- sible to directly create the natural shape and youthful luminance of a tooth so easily and perfectly in only one appointment, according to the company. It added that the versatile area of application, together with the time- and cost-saving procedure, makes edelweiss VENEER and OCCLUSIONVD a sound investment for the dentist. “For the user, it is important to re- member that, even if high-quality ad- hesive systems are used, ceramics are mainly supported by enamel and AD dentine,” not ex- plained Clinical and Scientifi c Director of edelweiss dentistry Dr Claudio Novelli re- garding what distin- guishes this new ap- plication method from ceramics. “The prefab- ricated enamel shells, however, show very strong bonding and fl exibility, which pro- vides for good perfor- mance and resistance to cracking even when bonding to dentine.” In contrast to ce- ramics, according to Novelli, enamel shells can be ad- justed to the existing tooth situation and shape individually directly on the patient or model. This allows the smile design and reconstruction to be freely confi gured, for instance in the presence of severe bruxism. The wa- fer-thin enamel shells allow for mini- mally invasive application in the way that the tooth is freed of residue and only minimally roughened. The re- stored tooth is then prepared using the etch-bond technique and ce- mented with highly fi lled composite material. This produces a biomechan- ical monoblock, which ensures opti- mal adhesion and integration in the given tooth situation. Using Ultra- dent’s Peak Universal Bond, this tech- nique even allows for existing metal and ceramic restorations to be ve- neered. Improved and true-to-life shade matching is guaranteed by the enamel and composite shades included with the system and is based on the Natu- ral Layering Concept by Dr Didier Dietschi. Owing to the lifelike biome- chanical properties of the composite material and therefore the veneers, industry none of the surrounding tooth substance is af- fected or damaged, which underscores the ethical aspect of this method in contrast to ceramic resto- rations.w Since they are fl exi- ble, the enamel shells are ideally suited for use in the mandible, as the wear of the antagonist second dentition is better, more true to nature, than that of ceramic. This makes edelweiss VENEER and OCCLUSIONVD the ideal solution for patients with a low budget, for young people or for those who practise con- tact sports. Thou- sands of cases worldwide have con- fi rmed the precision and effi ciency of both lasers which according to the company improve treatment results and increase patient satisfaction. Owing to their to their excellent hemostatic capability, the Picasso line diode lasers allow precise and fast soft tissue surgery, while the LiteTouch Er:YAG dental laser system offers precise ablative and sub-abla- tive capabilities on both soft and hard tissues, in addition to having bactericidal effects. The number of placed dental im- plants is growing each year and with it the number of biological complica- tions. Among these, peri-implantitis is considered the most common cause of implant loss after osseointe- gration. Microorganisms residing on the surfaces of implants and their prosthetic components are consid- ered to be the primary etiologic fac- tor for the disease. Thus the efforts to save the implants by achieving a complete implant surface disinfec- tion has become the main challenge for periodontologists worldwide. Although the causes of peri-im- plantitis vary and are often inter- linked, primary treatment should in- clude removal of deposits, calculus and granulation tissue, but most im- portantly the bacteria that contami- nate the implant surface and the sur- rounding tissue. While current treat- ment concepts manage to remove the granulation tissue and other infected deposits, the often do not fully fully decontaminate the treated area and implants without harming the im- plant surface. Light Instruments’s new dental laser technology emerged as an alter- native therapy for fi ghting different oral pathogens causing peri-implanti- tis. It comes with several benefi ts. For example, the ablation of the gran- ulation tissue can be performed with- out causing any damage to the im- plant surface and the adjacent tis- sues in areas diffi cult to reach by conventional tools. The decontamina- tion of the implant service can also be performed without causing any thermal side effects to the tissue and the surrounding bone. Precise and selective, bone sur- gery with the LiteTouch is performed in a very minimally invasive way that maintains tissue integrity and vascularisation. Owing to the bio- stimulation effect of the lasers, dentists will be further able to in- crease the success rate of tissue re- generation success rate.
