DT South Asia Indian The 10th World Congress for Oral Implantology and AAID Global Conference 2016 was held from 11th- 13th November, 2016 at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, New Delhi amid great prospect and optimism. The Congress was one of a kind, under the aegis of International Congress of Oral (ICOI), American Implantologists Implant Dentistry Academy of (AAID), Prosthodontic Society Indian Society of Periodontology, Indian Dental Association and Association of Oral Implantology. In addition to this, the Congress was endowed and supported by Government of Delhi and NCT, CSIR, ICMR, WHO, UGC, DST, INSA, STPI, Dental Council of Indian and Indian Academy of Restorative Dentistry. The underpinning theme of the Congress was “Global Fusion- Bridging the Barriers for Implant Excellence.” (IPS), CEUIOMF, spectrum The wide to the delegates belonged which to terms of nationality and in experience (pertaining to the field of Implantology) truly helped to bridge the chasms in knowledge and expertise. The conference was the culmination of months of preparation by the Organising Committee presided by Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma. The reins of the congress were held tight by the Organising Secretary Dr. Brij Sabherwal, the Chairman of the Committee Dr. Shanker Iyer and the Vice President Dr. Shigeo Osato. The hard work which they had put in to the event was reflected in the keen interest of nearly 1,200 national and international delegates and the enthusiasm they showed in a packed, three-day agenda. There were in all 60 key note speakers, 12 pre- conference courses, 12 master table clinics, 150 free papers, 75 e-posters and print posters. during invitees In order to set the ball rolling, the conference was graced by the auspicious presence of dignitaries, besides the inauguration. Justice Dattu, as the Chief Guest, emphasised on the fact that oral health is the cog in the wheel for maintaining general health and highlighted the fact that health in general and oral health in particular is the basic human right. The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, hailed the enthusiasm of all the participants and lauded the organisers for their untiring efforts to put the events in order and people all under one umbrella. The galaxy of stalwarts at the dais also included Dr. Gerard Scortecci (President ICOI), Dr. Shanker Iyer (President AAID), Dr. Kenneth WM Judy, Prof. Dr. Manuel Chanavaz, Dr. Saranjit Bhasin, Dr. Himanshu Aerean and Dr. Natlie Wong among many others. The conference was preceeded by 10 pre-conference courses related to surgical and Prosthetic aspects of Implant Dentistry. Each course targeted to demystify the enigmas associated with Implantology. The courses covered prosthetic and surgical aspects. Dr. Joseph Massad, Dr. Stuart Orton Jones, Dr. Kumaraswamy, Dr. Rodrigo Neiva, Dr. Christian Hollay, Dr. Gerard Scortecci and Team, Dr. Karl- Ludwig Ackermann, Dr. Praful Bali and Team, Dr. Gazmawe Amir, Dr. Sagar Abhichandani , Dr. Georges Khoury, Dr. Christian Makary, Dr. Prasad Joshi and Dr. Sandeep Singh covered a wide spectrum from basic to advanced implantology. The three days of the Conference commenced punctually in scientific sessions running back-to-back in two auditoriums. The tempo was set and the audience had an interactive experience with Dynamic group of key note speakers and panelists provided in-depth details about several contemporary trends and procedure in Implantology. Speakers from across the globe shared their research and experience. The Master clinics provided with credible information disclosure on topics falling in the grey zones and clinical dilemmas in implant dentistry. Parallel to the dissemination of knowledge by the gurus, the Congress provided an apt platform for the delegates to show case their research and innovations through free papers, e posters and print posters all falling under competitive category that were adjudged by impartial reviewers. The exercise further resulted in exchange of knowledge and experience amongst the delegates. The chasm between the theory and the practical application of a techniques in implant dentistry was bridged by the exhibitors showcasing the latest evidence based materials and instruments at the Trade Section of the Congress. The feedback from the delegates was extremely positive in terms of relevance of the resources displayed in the exhibition and the trade. Final closure and Gratitude : The third and the last day of the congress culminated with an interesting and by far the most interactive “30 questions in 90 minutes” session. In this session 30 questions by the 30 delegates were asked to a group of ten experts who had to retort within two minutes. the Finally, curtains were drawn at the valedictory function, where in addition to gracing the efforts of organisers, winners of the competitive events were given awards. In a nut shell, the Congress saw a fine convening of the crème-de-la- crème practitioners in Implantology together with promising delegates.
