The survey, which was conducted among more than1,000participants,showedthat dentists top the list of health practi- tioners that people do not see as of- tenastheywouldliketo. For the survey, 1,025 Americans aged 18 and over received an email invita- tion to complete an online survey. Morethan40percent(194malesand 230 females) reported that they do not go to the dentist as often as they would like to, compared with other healthpractitioners. Dermatologist and general practi- tioner came second and third in the survey, with 28 and 23 percent, re- spectively. The 2014 figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that 62 percent of adults aged 18–64 and 83 percent of children aged2–17visitthedentistonceayear. According to the American Dental Association, approximately 23 per- cent of adults indicated that they were either unsure of whether they would be visiting or definitely did not plan to visit a dentist in the next 12 months in 2014. Over 40 percent of adults indicated that they would forgo dental care owing to financial barriers, and 14 percent said that they did not have the time to see a dentist. The results of the DDPA Adults’ Oral Health and Well-Being Survey were publishedonJan.4.Itwasconducted betweenDecember2015andJanuary 2016 by insights firm Kelton Global on behalf of Delta Dental Plans Asso- ciation, a not-for-profit organization andAmerica’slargestdentalbenefits carrier.
