scrapbook 12 Greater New York Dental Meeting — Nov. 30, 2016 Spotlight on Germany By Marc Chalupsky, today Staff n At the press conference for the 100th anniversary of the Association oftheGermanDentalIndustry(VDDI), attendees learned more about this year’s record participation of German companies at the Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM). The speakers praised the dental shows in the United States and Ger- many, as well as the innovative char- acter of German and American dental companies. Following the press con- ference, participants had the oppor- tunity to learn more about the latest products in the Science Lab. “The Germans have a reputation of training the best engineers and technicians. We are well-known for being punctual and precise. If you look at our dental products, it is clear that we know that precision matters,” said Uwe Beckmeyer, parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Minis- try for Economic Affairs and Energy. He spoke about the German industry as a high-tech business with the lat- est innovations, such as 3-D-printed crowns now entering the market. The fairs and exhibition division Beckmeyeroverseesisresponsiblefor promoting small and medium-sized companies at trade shows around the world. He hailed the record participa- tion of 42 German companies at the well-established GNYDM as further proof of the importance of the Ger- man–American business relationship andmutualinterestintheirrespective markets. Both in the United States and Germany, trade shows continue to be of particular significance for gaining firsthand experience of products. The number of German exhibitors at trade shows in the United States and around the world is constantly growing. Christoph Weiss, spokesperson for the exhibitors and managing director ofBEGO,saidtheGermanpavilionand exhibition of German products has beenthelargestonetodateatGNYDM. “Scientific research and its transi- tion into real products have been a continuous task and been done by both American and German com- panies with great success,” Weiss said. “As the VDDI is celebrating its 100th anniversary, we would like to celebrate this with the latest prod- ucts. This is why only state-of-the-art products made in Germany can be seen in the Science Lab and within the pavilion.” The Science Lab provides an overview of new products created in collaboration with researchers and academics. 5 This year, the German dental association celebrates its 100th anniversary.
