Chairman of the Association of German Dental Manufacturers Dr Martin Rickert said that, while the show will cover the entire spectrum of dental products, a special focus will be on the ongoing digitalisation in dentistry and linking of different systems for better diagnostics and treatment.Thelatestdevelopments, including new and improved filling materials in conventional fields like restorative dentistry, will be on display as well. As a first, IDS 2015 will have Career Day, which is in- tended to serve as a meeting plat- form for the industry and young dentists. Professional visitors will also have the opportunity to experi- ence the use of new technologies as part of the novel Know-how Tours, which are being organised in collab- oration with two well-known dental practices in Cologne. The organisation’s 2015 market sur- vey also revealed that the number of European dentists has slightly in- creased to a total of 276.090 in 2014 compared to 270.045 the year before. A contrary trend showed in the number of dental offices and dental laboratories.Whilethenumbersofthe former remained flat on average, the total figures of labs in Europe has de- creased in almost every surveyed country.AccordingtoADDEPresident Dominique Deschietere, given the growing numbers of practicing den- tiststhisdevelopmenteitherindicates atrendtogrouppracticesorconsolida- tion.7 n On 14 March, the 36th International Dental Show (IDS) in Cologne closed after five days with a record result. The organisers reported that about 138,500 visitors from 151 countries attended the most important trade fair in the dental industry, which rep- resents an increase of nearly 11 per cent compared with the 2013 IDS. A new record was also set with regard to the number of exhibitors and exhibition space. A total of 2,201 companies (+6.9 per cent) from 56 countries presented their latest inno- vations, product developments and services over 157,000 m² (+6.2 per cent).Morethan70percentoftheex- hibitors came from abroad (+2 per cent ).In addition, the number of visi- tors from Germany increased by 4.3 per cent. “We managed to make the Inter- national Dental Show in Cologne, both nationally and internationally, even more attractive, making it the mostsuccessfulIDSever,”concluded Dr Martin Rickert, Chairman of the Association of German Dental Manu- facturers (VDDI). We also noticed re-emerging business in the southern European market, especially Italy and Spain.” The 2015 IDS focused on intelli- gent networking of components for computer-based dentistry. As com- puterised processes have gained in- creasing importance, digital systems in diagnostics and production today span the entire workflow from the practice to the laboratory. A visitor survey showed that morethan75percentofattendeesin- terviewed were either satisfied or verysatisfiedwiththeshow.Overall, 95 per cent of the visitors surveyed would recommend visiting business partners at IDS and 77 per cent plan to attend the show in two years’ time.
