40 40 „Smile is a signature not a stereotype” …by Christian Coachman T That’s obvious! I’ve been designing smiles for some of the best dentists and toughest patients for the last 20 years and if I didn’t understand this basic principle I would be in trouble. „Digital tools are just tools...” That’s also obvious. I was never a digital addict, I just use simple tools that can guide me through the creative process of integrating smiles to faces and characters. Guidelines are just guidelines, not rules. If designing be- autiful smiles was so obvious we wouldn’t have this huge amount of horrible restorative cases all over the world. If we really pretend to teach something, we better develop proto- cols to help people solve problems with more predictability, otherwise we are just showing of! Make good quality minimal- ly invasive dentistry more democratic was always a dream for me. Helping people to do better! Fancy statements will not help people to deliver better den- tistry. The huge majority of lectures all over the world are focu- sed on protocols that can only be applied by 5% of the dentists worldwide leaving 95% of the population without an answer. Before any treatment plan, we need to visualize well our final destination. Helping our eyes to see... Our brain to think... Our hands to create... Link the facial harmony to smile design was always a grey zone in dentistry. Dentists all over the world are tx planning without having a good visual understanding of the facial-dental discrepancies. We need to create better protocols for better dento-facial integration. I was tired of im- provisation, lack of communication, unpredictability. I worked with great teams and we still had problems. If somebody believes that digital tools will solve all the problems in dentistry, this person is in big trouble. This is obvious. In our courses we always mention: Customization of smi- les, Never use golden proportion for smiles, use the guideli- nes just to avoid big mistakes, connect the patients face to the working model, use your creativity, analyze the face in motion, listen to your patients, develop your eye-hand skills, create a facially guided design and than integrate this design with function and biology on the most minimally invasive way. Understand how to take advantage of the beautiful world of interdisciplinary dentistry to create more simple solution, DON’T DO CROWN LENGTHENING IF ESTHETICALLY IS NOT RELEVANT. Facially generated tx plan! Plan from outside in, reverse and predictable tx planning. SIMPLICITY, PREDIC- TABILITY, EFFICIENCY. Make your patient happy, exceed expectations! Create beautiful, healthy and confident smiles that can last many years!!! There are no rules, just a strong background on scien- ce, technique, art and passion. Make your patient fall in love with your treatment plan!!! Make dentistry a higher priority in people life. Increase the value of dentistry towards the general public! Dentistry is amazing and unique and the whole world needs to know this!!! Whatever we developed, we did following these princi- ples. My humble goal is to try to find simple solutions for old problems that I realized are common all over the world. Who has the perfect solutions??? We will keep working on it and moving forward... Besides all the negative energy coming from people that criticize before even asking and understan- ding what we are doing... Thank God our team is getting big- ger and bigger with thousands of amazing people from all over the world that are sharing the same basic principles of putting our egos aside and serving better our patients.
