Journal of Oral Science & Rehabilitation 36 Volume 2 | Issue 2/2016 B o n e b l o c k g r a f t t o t r e a t a p i c o m a r g i n a l d e f e c t Bone block graft to treat an apicomarginal defect simultaneously with apical surgery of the maxillary incisors: A case report with three-year follow-up Abstract O b j e c t i v e The objective of this article is to describe the successful management of an apicomarginal defect of a maxillary lateral incisor with a bone block graft performed simultaneously with apical surgery of both lateral and central incisors. C a s e p r e s e n t a t i o n A15-year-oldmalepatientwitharecurrentsinustractinvolvingthemax- illaryrightincisorswasreferredforpossibletreatmentwithapicalsurgery. Rootcanaltreatmentandapicalsurgeryhadbeenundertakenunsuccess- fully one year before. Radiographic examination revealed a radiolucent area surrounding the tooth apexes. A bone block was harvested from the apical area ofthe central incisorwith ultrasoundtipsto gain accesstothe rootendandapicalsurgeryofbothincisorswasperformed.Theboneblock graft was used to cover an apicomarginal bony defect of the maxillary lateral incisor.At the three-yearfollow-up, the teeth had no clinical signs orsymptoms,andtheperiapicalradiographdemonstratedcompleteheal- ing around the apexes. C o n c l u s i o n The use of a bone block graft to treat an apicomarginal defect in conjunc- tion with apical surgery achieved complete healing of the periradicular tissue in this case.
