n As a family-owned Japanese company continuously improv- ing its core competences and technologies, GC strives to de- velop smart solutions for den- tists’ daily challenges, which sometimesrequiresgoingagainst traditional concepts. In this re- spect, GC has taken a daring newapproachtoaestheticdental restorations:Essentia, developed together with a group of experts in aesthetic dentistry, no longer relies on the classic VITA co- lours,butonaverysimpleassort- ment of seven shades, created to mimic natural teeth in a patient of any age and offering dentists the maximum creative freedom. At last year’s International Den- tal Show, GC presented Essentia to a professional audience for the first time. In developing Essentia, GC pursued a long process of creat- ing a very lean and simple colour scheme of only seven shades. This material offers more than a true alternative to conven- tional shade systems; it marks a paradigm shift in restorative dentistry. Shades are no longer based on the traditional hues (A, B, C, D) of commonly used systems, but instead follow the chroma (intensity) and value (lightness) of teeth, in order to best mimic the natural enamel and dentine. Therefore, the two enamelandthreedentineshades are characterised as light, me- dium or dark. Four main combinations of enamel and dentine colours suit- able for the patient’s age (Young, Junior, Adult and Senior) make shade selection easier and are sufficienttoformthebasisofany restoration—at any age. Four different compositions were used to give specific prop- erties to each shade, each best suited to its respective use: while enamel shades offer high pol- ishability and gloss retention, dentine colours display an amaz- ing shade adaptation to the cav- ity and can easily be modelled. The Universal shade provides the best chameleon effect for mono-shade posterior restora- tions, and the Masking Liner, withhighopacity, iseasytoplace owing to its injectable consis- tency. This makes Essentia a sim- ple and reliable solution for all aesthetic restorations, as well as the perfect partner for dentists looking for a simplified, yet highly aesthetic system. Certainly, this straightfor- ward approach offers many ad- vantages: practitioners prima- rily benefit from a simplified build-up process, allowing high- ly aesthetic restorations to be created in significantly less time, while patients profit from a long- lastinggloss, aswellasareduced risk of plaque accumulation and staining, owing to the opti- mised composition of the enamel shades. In addition, even dentists de- siring more detailed characteri- sation of their restorations gain from Essentia: four dedicated modifiers have been developed to satisfy various demands, such as the desire for an opalescent halo on the incisal edge, fis- surestainingormimickingwhite spots. By boldly reducing the com- plexity of conventional shade systems, Essentia brings restora- tive dentistry to its essence and opens up the way to maximal creativity. Once more, GC has conquered new frontiers to develop an inno- vative solution for daily chal- lenges that perfectly blends ver- satility, simplicity and aesthetics in a smart solution—enabling dentists to just follow their in- tuition. 7 GC NORDIC AB, DENMARK www.gceurope.com Booth C3-014 business 23 SCANDEFA Copenhagen 2016 Essentia from GC:More creativity, less complexity AD
