today Greater New York Dental Meeting Nov. 29, 2015

By Kathy Bassett, BSDH, RDH, Med, and Art DiMarco, DMD n When patients are looking to establish a dental home, what factors lead them to you and keep them with you? What prepares them for a great patient experience? Is your practice appreciated more for its technical expertise and esthetic excellence, its ergonomic andemotionalsustainability, orforits pain-reduction strategies and sense ofhumor? Allareimportantbut, atthe end of the day, which perceptions do you value most? Dentistry is physically and emo- tionally demanding. The delivery of local anesthetics impacts both patients and clinicians as we strive to minimize discomfort. To deliver optimal dentistry in a gentle, pain-free manner, the value of treatment strategies must be con- sidered from all perspectives, includ- ing the patient’s and the clinician’s. Seasoned clinicians have preferred distraction strategies when it comes to administering local anesthesia, butthesestrategiesrelyonsubjective factors. Most clinicians use manual syringes, for example, and strategies involving manipulations when using manual syringes can lead to poor ergonomicpositioning,possiblywors- ened by individual factors.  Rate, fluidpressuresandadequacy of aspiration are just a few of the fac- tors that may vary. While we benefit daily from the explosion of techni- cal advances in devices, materials and techniques geared to deliver high-quality dentistry in a positive and comfortable manner, manual syringes can compromise not only our success but also our ergonomic well-being.  When considering technology that can enhance patient and clini- cian well-being, the Wand STA All- Injection System (sold exclusively through Aseptico, Inc.) is a win- win. This computer-controlled local anesthesia delivery (CCLAD) device can reduce stresses on the hand and wrist (ergonomic advantage — clini- cian) while providing accurate and controlled flow rates, fluid pressures and aspiration capabilities (comfort and safety advantage — patient). In today’s busy practice environ- ment, creating sustainable practice patterns that recognize the impor- tance of every practice’s two most critical assets — patients and clini- cians — calls for integration of new technologies into the daily routine. Technologies that enhance techni- cal excellence in a pain-free manner while supporting ergonomic princi- ples are good for everyone. exhibitors16 Greater New York Dental Meeting — Nov. 29, 2015 Gentle dentistry: Not just for patients Ad Win-win strategies for optimal gently dentistry 5 The Wand STA All-Injection System is sold excluseively through Aseptico.
