The care will continue throughout the coming year, with the children receiving ongoing treatment from the Center for Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington (also the host site of Wednesday’s event). This is the third annual meeting during which AAPD members have donated their time and skills to pro- videcriticallyneededoral-healthcare to underserved children in the city hosting the annual meeting. The care is funded primarily by AAPD mem- bers through care grants and through the support of sponsor Sunstar Ameri- cas Inc. About 60 AAPD dentists volun- teeredduringDentalHomeDay,which is a Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children (HSHC) program. HSHC is the chari- table giving arm of the AAPD. The gathering back then was in a hotel conference center — and it was likely impossible for any of the attendees to imagine what things would look like the next time they got together in the Emerald City. One of those attendees, Ed Moody, DDS, certainly wasn’t imagining him- self as president of the organization today.“Itwasneverevenontheradar,” Moody said, while preparing for Fri- day morning’s opening ceremony and awards presentations.
