Meeting organizers encourage attend- ees to include the exhibit hall as a core component of their annual session expe- rience. According to the organizers, “Pur- chasing from companies at the ADHA’s meeting shows the exhibiting companies the value of their participation. Exhibi- tors at the ADHA event help support you and the dental hygiene profession. Help show the value of why companies should exhibit at the ADHA’s annual meeting.” Purchasing at ADHA can help you earn discounted or complimentary registra- tion for the ADHA’s 2016 event in Pitts- burgh. New ‘Innovation Center‘ The new ADHA/Henry Schein Innova- tion Center, at the end of the 500 aisle on the exhibit floor, will highlight new technologies, products and equipment introduced to the market within the last 18 months. Participating companies include Crest + Oral-B P&G Professional Oral Health, Dental EZ Group, Henry Schein Dental, OraPharma and Philips ZOOM! ADHA’s Foundation: Institute for Oral Health corporate matching day ADHA’s Foundation, the Institute for Oral Health, operates an informational and fundraising booth in the ADHA commu- nity center, staffed by volunteers, where ADHA members and student hygienists can make a tax-deductible donation. The IOH corporate challenge grant sponsorship is a dollar-for-dollar dona- tion match, with donations made by members matched by the participating company. Plenary sessions Plenary sessions are scheduled for Thurs- day and Saturday. The Thursday, June 18, keynote pre- sentation is at 8 a.m. and is open to all attendees and exhibitors. The speaker is Mike Rayburn, CSP, CPAE, an author, co- median and world-class guitarist with a reputation as an inspirational thought leader and one of the most in-demand and unconventional keynote artists in the world. Drawing on his success as an entrepreneur and Carnegie Hall head- liner, Rayburn promises to help you increase profitability and impact by in- spiring your team to become “possibility thinkers” and virtuoso performers — all by asking the question, “What if…?” Ray- burn uses his guitar skills and comedy to illustrate three tools designed to turn your team into an “army of innovators.” The keynote presentation on Saturday, June 20, follows the ADHA awards pre- sentations, which begin at 8 a.m., and is open to all attendees and exhibitors. The speaker is Diana Nyad, who at the age of 64, in her fifth attempt, fulfilled her life- long dream of completing the 110-mile swim from Cuba to Florida. She com- pleted the grueling 53-hour journey on Sept. 2, 2013. In 2010, at the age of 60, she began her “Xtreme Dream” quest of com- pleting the swim, which she had failed to finish 30 years earlier. When asked her motivation, Nyad said, “Because I’d like to prove to the other 60-year-olds that it is never too late to start your dreams.” Nyad was unsuc- cessful in her quest in 2010 and tried two more times in 2011 and 2012 before completing the historic swim. Nyad has earned a reputation as a uniquely pas- sionate and entertaining speaker. Photo/Provided by Music City Center or the “present” that we forget what our dental team is routinely and actively ac- complishing? Once the High Line project started to take shape, the entire Western edge of Manhattan enjoyed a rebirth. How many times have we heard of pa- tients who restore one area of their mouth with an implant and then become moti- vated to continue with more treatment? You develop the patients’ trust, and they make up their own mind to do the right thing. They become motivated to start their own “beautification project” and come in for regular recare appointments. Today was a day to pause and reflect on interdependence, interconnectedness on a global scale. I couldn’t help but think of how it applies to my own worklife on a day-to-day basis. The diversity of the languages you hear among New York tourists is always enter- taining. We pretty much all dress alike these days, so it’s the cacophony of foreign words that adds a bit of zest to one’s walk. The food carts, the artists, the street sing- ers — they’re all up on the High Line too, “ PERSPECTIVE, page c1 along with monks in flowing orange robes. The monks seemed to fit in perfectly with the simple bamboo garden. With an atmosphere designed to bring peace and self awareness to a bustling city, the park is perfect for an easy two-mile walk or a seat for quiet contemplation. He handed me a simple wooden-bead brace- let and a card that reads, “Work smoothly, lifetime peace.” Can’t say I need to wish for much more in life.
