With preparations fi- nalised in May, dental profession- als are invited to learn about the latest trends and developments in both fields over the course of the next three days, the organisation said. Headed by King’s College London Prof. Francis Hughes, EuroPerio8 is expected to bring to- gether thousands members of the professionattheExCeLLondonEx- hibition and Convention Centre. Hughes told today earlier that par- ticipantscanlookforwardtooneof the largest and most successful congresses on periodontology and implant dentistry ever held in Eu- rope. Over 100 distinguished interna- tional speakers have confirmed their participation in the scientific programme, which will be comple- mented by a number of sponsored sessions and free oral sessions se- lected from submitted abstracts. “There is lots for all the dental team,”Hughessaid.“Wearepartic- ularlykeentoattractmanygeneral dentists and hygienists. This is a greatopportunityforustopromote the profile of periodontology within the profession and more widely in the population both within the UK and throughout Eu- rope.” Accordingtoarecentstudycon- ducted by Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, periodontitis, particu- larly in its severe form, remains highlyprevalentaroundtheworld, with almost every tenth person suffering from the condition. In Britain,atleastonein15adultsare currently affected by the most se- vere form of periodontal disease, according to National Health Serv- ice figures. Experts will discuss these de- velopments at EuroPerio8, as well as other issues in the field includ- ing peri-implant diseases and in- terrelations between general and dental health. The event will also be a showcase for the most recent productinnovationsinoralhealth, which will be presented by up to 80 sponsors, including the UK’s own Dentaid, as well as major in- ternational dental companies in- cluding MIS, Nobel Biocare or Planmeca.
