news18 Show Review IDS Cologne 2015 An eye on current trends and the needsofitscustomerscombinedwith always being a bit ahead of the rest when it comes to sensing what sort of innovations are coming next equals 125 years of company history that can attest to the fact that a family cul- ture steeped in tradition and the lat- est in dental technology can fit to- gether quite nicely. It was because of this that W&H extended an invitation to a media event held in the stylish setting of the Flora on Cologne to speak about past milestones and its latest innovations during IDS. Europe’s first mechanical hand- piece and elbow component, the first endo-elbow element with reciprocal action, the first combination cleans- ing and care device for instruments, the first sterilisable nozzle with a 5-setting LED for shadow-free illumi- nation—at W&H there have been a great many firsts that have signifi- cantly contributed to advances in dental medicine. The company’s suc- cess has resulted, said both Peter Malata, W&H CEO, and Roland Gru- ber, Chief of Marketing, mainly from the “get connected” concept that has been a constant at W&H. In achieving its lasting success, the company relies on a broad net- work of partners. This means that the company’s intention, both now and for the future, is not to serve as a full- range supplier of products and serv- ices but rather to present itself to cus- tomersasasolutionprovider.Thepri- mary tool the company uses to achieve this is to enter into collabora- tive relationships with partners, as the company demonstrated by part- nering with Proxeo and the YOUNG system or through the Bone & Tissue Days taking place in December of 2015 in Salzburg. This approach is an example of how to bundle together the strategic skills that other compa- nies provide in order to offer the cus- tomermorediversityandgreatereffi- ciency in daily operations. After Malata went over current business-related strategic data, it fell toGrubertocoverallthenewproduct innovations that have recently been introduced to the market during this year, the company’s anniversary. In doing so, the company again demon- strated its expertise in developing products for the fields of parodontol- ogy and prophylaxis, oral surgery and implantology, restauration and prosthetics as well as dental hygiene and care. Around 270 guests gathered in theFloraPalaistodulymarkthecom- pany’s anniversary. Included among them were both domestic and inter- nationaldistributionpartnersaswell as W&H employees. Imposing chan- deliers, an appealing display of light- ing effects and colours and a striking array of other events helped make the evening a success while the “get connected” concept was once again on display. Alongside the music that accompanied the gala dinner, the West African drumming perform- ance marked the climax of the evening’s events. The Festsaal was employed to its fullest, which con- tributed to an atmosphere unlikely to be forgotten anytime soon.7 Austriandentalproducts manufacturerW&Hcele- bratedanniversaryatIDS 5 CEO Peter Malata and Sales Director Roland Gruber led the press event. Onthewaythere,GCpresentedthelat- est innovations for use in dental prac- tices and labs during an exclusive press conference at the 2015 IDS. In his introductory remarks, Dr Kiyotaka Nakao, President of GC Cor- poration, emphasized IDS‘s leading role as a platform for increasingly dy- namicdevelopmentsinthefieldofden- tistry.Butheunderscoredthatitispar- ticularly during such periods of rapid change that the values of experience and tradition make themselves clear- est, since only they can assure that proper steps are taken with the cus- tomer in mind in reacting to important market trends. Following that, Prof. Dr Reiner Bif- far,DirectorofthePolyclinicforDental Prosthetics, Elderly Dental Care and Medical Substances at the Ernst- Moritz-Arndt-University Greifswald, gave a presentation on the results of a long-term clinical study on the practi- cal application of the filling method EQUIA.Withthehelpof111dentistsin randomly selected German cities, the study examined the clinical perform- anceoftheEQUIArestaurationsystem as compared with conventional glas- ionomercementFujiIXGPFast(GC),in combination with the light-cured coat- ingFujiCoatLC(GC).Analysisshowed that both materials performed well in restoringclassIcavities, andinclassII cavities, the protective effect of the EQUIA Coats was noted for EQUIA fill- ings, resulting in a five-fold increase in clinical performance in comparison with glas-ionomer cement. The results of this study conducted over 48 months contributed to the develop- ment of the next stage in EQUIA’s evo- lution: the EQUIA Forte, which was be- ing introduced for the first time at this year’s IDS. During his presentation, Dr Javier Tapia Guadix, DDS and member of the GC advisory board for restorative den- tal medicine, announced a paradigm shiftincompositelayertechnology.Es- sentia lays claim to being a simplified, minimalist system lacking any unnec- essary complexity and aimed at mak- ingitpossibletoprovideforsimpleand aesthetically satisfactory treatment. It onlyrequiresthreedentinshadeswith increasing colour saturation and de- creasing opacity as well as two shades of enamel. With the lecture by Prof. Marleen Peumans, KU Leuven/BIOMAT, Uni- versity Hospitals Leuven, the focus next turned to research and produc- tion of materials suitable for CAD/ CAM blocks. GC offers the hybrid ce- ramicCERASMART,madeofultrafine, uniformly dispersed fillers. The mate- rial demonstrates a high degree of ma- terial hardness without residual ten- sion. In-vitro studies at the KU Leu- ven/BIOMAT showed that CERA- SMART also demonstrates a high degree of resistance against mini-frac- tures. Remaining within the field of digi- taldentistry,Prof.DrWöstmann,Direc- torofthePolyclinicforDentalProsthet- ics at the Justus-Liebig University Gießen, then moved on to the topic of intra-oral scanners. He sees in them one of the most interesting develop- ments in modern dental prosthetics and attributed a high degree of preci- siontothenewpowder-freeAadvaIOS from GC. Next, Michael Brüsch, MB Dental- technik, introduced a new product in the field of dental technology. The ce- ramic Initial LiSi was developed ex- clusively for lithium-disilicate frame- worksandisparticularlyimpressivein terms of handling and combustion. To conclude, Michele Puttini, Pres- ident of GC Europe, offered an overview of the innovative products being introduced under the motto “Welcome to the GC Smart Age” at this year’s IDS.7 AD 5 MichelePuttini,PresidentofGCEurope.(Photo: Antje Isbaner, OEMUS MEDIA AG) 5 Musical performances at the gala dinner.
