business12 APDC Singapore 2015 At the sixth International Con- gress on Adhesive Dentistry (IAD), held recently in Bangkok in Thai- land, dental consumables manufac- turerDENTSPLYlaunched“one”,its collection of premium, high-per- formance restorative materials that weredesignednotonlytobeeasyto use, but also to allow dentists to achieveoutstandingclinicalresults. Visitors to the Asia Pacific Dental Congress (APDC) in Singapore will beamongthefirsttotryoutthenew materials at the company’s booth (C17). DENTSPLY has also an- nounced its post-congress sympo- sium titled “Secrets of the anterior direct composite restoration—What shouldyoureallyknowaboutit?”to be held this Sunday from 6 pm to 7.30 pm with German restorative dentistryexpertDrWalterDias. According to the company, the “one” collection consists of ceram.x one, a composite available in differ- enttranslucenciesforeverydayaes- thetics (ceram.x one UNIVERSAL) and highly aesthetic restorations (ceram.xoneDENTIN&ENAMEL).It also contains two bonding systems, one for total-etch applications (prime&bond® one ETCH & RINSE) and one for self-etch, selective enamel etch and total-etch applica- tions(prime&bond® oneSELECT). Covering the full VITA (VITA Zahnfabrik) shade range with just sevenshades,ceram.xoneUNIVER- SALisextremelysimpleandeasyto use, the company said. With inter- mediate translucency ranging be- tween natural enamel and dentine, ceram.x one UNIVERSAL offers a powerful chameleon effect to facili- tate natural, lifelike restorations and is ideal for everyday use. While many composite systems offer a myriad of shades and translucen- cies, makingitdifficulttomatchthe colour of the natural teeth, ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL replicates the structure of natural teeth utiliz- ing just two translucencies: dentine shades that mimic natural dentine andenamelshadesthatmimicnatu- ral enamel. Also covering the full VITA shade range, it enables highly aesthetic, natural restorations with only four dentine and three enamel shades. It is difficult to achieve an opti- mumlevelofdentinemoistureprior to the application of an adhesive. Overwet or overdry dentine can leadtoinsufficientsealing, resulting in microleakage and post-operative sensitivity. Prime&bond® one ETCH & RINSE offers a technique-tolerant solution, providing high bond strength and reliable performance evenonoverwetoroverdrydentine, accordingtoDENTSPLY. Theliteratureoftenrecommends usingaself-etchadhesiveincavities with a large proportion of exposed dentineinordertominimisetherisk of post-operative sensitivity. How- ever, etch-and-rinse adhesives have shownsuperiorlong-termresultson enamel. Prime&bond® one SELECT combines the advantages of both techniques. It provides high bond strengthwithalletchingtechniques (self-etch, etch and rinse, and selec- tive enamel etch) and delivers reli- able performance even on overdry dentine, resulting in virtually no post-operativesensitivity. Bulkfillingfromdifferent perspectives The IAD meeting was hosted by andheldatMahidolUniversityfrom 31 January to 1 February and at- tended by more than 350 visitors from all around the world. With the theme“60th anniversaryofadhesive dentistry:Nowandbeyond”,thesci- entific programme focused on ad- vancementsinadhesivetechnology intermsofnewadhesivesandappli- cations. Keynote lectures were de- livered by well-known speakers, such as Profs. Jack L. Ferracane, Reinhard Hickel, Satoshi Imazato, Bart Van Meerbeek, Mutlu Özcan, Jorge Perdigão and Franklin R. Tay, andDrJanDeMunck. Two trends towards the simplifi- cation of adhesive dentistry were discussed throughout the confer- ence,onebeingbulkfillingofposte- riorcavitiesandtheotherbeinguni- versaladhesives.Thelatterofferthe dentisttheflexibilitytoadjusthisor her etching technique according to the clinical situation with just one product, insteadofhavingtochoose between etch-and-rinse or self-etch products. Bulk filling was consequently elucidated from different perspec- tives by three international speak- ers during a post-congress sympo- sium sponsored by DENTSPLY and chaired by Prof. Rainer Seemann (DENTSPLY). Prof. Hickel from the UniversityofMunichinGermanyre- viewedtheinvitroandclinicaldata for current bulk-fill materials, and Prof. Van Meerbeek from KU Leu- ven in Belgium presented his re- searchfindingsontheperformance ofbulk-fillmaterialsinhighC-factor cavities. Heconcludedthatthematerial, with its unique combination of handling features and low shrinkage stress, can be regarded as a technological pioneer and a new gold standard in thiscategory. For a group of 24 experts in aes- thetic dentistry from all over Asia, the IAD meeting continued with a one-and-a-half-day course titled “State of the art in direct anterior restorationswithcomposites”using the ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL resin composite systems. Dr Dias demonstrated how easy it can be to achieve beautiful anterior compos- itebuild-upsandcompositeveneers byusingthemostsuitablematerials and following simple and logical sequences. Owing to its exceptional optical properties, ceram.x one is indeed a smart choice for aesthetic anteriorrestoration, hesaid.
