The health care policy of the Dear Colleagues, O n behalf of the Scientific Committee, I warmly welcome all of you to par- A pleasure to welcome you to The Kingdom “The Saudi Dental Society Annual Conference - Innovative Digital Solutions in Dentistry” By Dental Tribune MEA R IYADH, KSA: This is your second SDS Conference for you as President, what are your thoughts of the upcoming event in relation to previous? The Saudi Dental Society (SDS) International Dental Confer- ence last year paved the way to the first paperless event for the society where we introduced the Poken which is a technology that utilizes Near Field Com- munication (NFC) technology to allow the exchange of online social networking data between two keychain accessories. Par- ticipants were able to interrelate professionally and exchange ideas during the conference ac- tivities digitally through their po- ken devices. The membership of the SDS continues to grow and each event is as successful as the previous year. This year, the event will feature 20 outstand- ing clinicians and dental experts who will cover various dental topics and bring forth another unique experience to its numer- ous members. How do you reflect back over the last 2 years as president of the SDS? During my first year, I had vowed to perform my tasks aimed at developing the soci- ety’s vision and to implement these policies and procedures. I am humbled to state that dur- ing my 2 years as President, the SDS served the dental commu- nity with many meaningful and remarkable accomplishments. I had hoped to stimulate more progress for the members of the Society towards providing them a better and diversified service, education and support. We see more and more the SDS has become very active out- side of the Kingdom, could you elaborate on your involve- ment in Dentistry for the GCC region? The membership of the SDS is by far one of the largest in the GCC region. This is why some of the SDS Board members are often involved in the GCC con- ference organizing committee and a majority of its members are always actively participating in the conferences outside the Kingdom like Dubai, Kuwait, Beirut, etc. The commitment and presence of the SDS mem- bers in the GCC conferences ensures their support and they gain scientific and educational advancement in return. What is your impression of the dental scene in the Mid- dle East region? How has it evolved over the last 2 years? During the last 2 years, the So- ciety supported successfully and effectively various community services and campaigns in the various regions of the Kingdom to promote health care aware- ness and education. The Aware- ness Day in Shrooq Almarefah Private Elementary School, Awareness Campaign for Spe- cial Needs Center, Yslam Famak Campaign to Raise Awareness for Cancer Damage, Children’s Charity Committee for Orphans Care, Awareness Campaign in AlNoor Institute for the Blind, Awareness Day in Abdullah bin Masood Elementary School, Education Day in Al-Ghat, Cam- paign Smoke-Free Mecca and participation in the Activities of the General World Children’s Day are just a few of those ac- complishments. This is a clear manifest that SDS fulfills its ob- jectives not only to its members Kingdom has been designed ac- cording to the vision of Custo- dian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, who once said: “Nothing is more important than the health of the people”. Aside from the scientific sessions during the Conference, there will be hands-on teaching work- shops and of course our popular poster sessions to give the pre- senter as much exposure as pos- sible to their peers, and research awards for the Graduates, Young Dentists and Dental Interns. We are thankful to the many in- ternational speakers who will shed light on the research and clinical issues that shape our field today. We hope that presentations from many different speakers from other countries shared dur- ing this Conference will enrich knowledge to the dental profes- sions in Saudi Arabia and help provide even better treatment, and dental care to the commu- nity they served.
