During his command, the unit saw a tremendous surge in infrastruc- tural development as well as pro- fessional advancements and the unit was on the fore front of delivery of dental services. His exception- ally outstanding contributions were suitably recognized and he was awarded the ‘Commendation by the Chief of the Army Staff’ in 2008. In addition to his long list of per- sonal awards, he is the only AD Corps Officer who could bag two awards for the whole of the unit. The Greatest recognition in the Army is not a personal award but an award for the whole unit, which is called ‘Unit Citation’. It is given to the whole unit for exceptionally outstanding services to the nation. The award is given by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the command to the Commandant and the Subedar Major of the re- ceiving unit. The Army Dental Corps in its existence of over seven decades received two 'Unit Cita- tions' for the Command Dental Centres. Both the Unit Citations by the Army Commanders were awarded during his Command tenure; 1st to the Command Mili- tary Dental Centre, Northern Com- mand in 2006 & later to the Com- mand Military Dental Centre, Cen- tral Command in 2011. Presently, he is the Prof and Head of Prosthodontics in the Army Dental Centre (R & R), New Delhi, where PG in Prostho- dontics is being carried out. He is also the PG Examiner for Delhi & Pune University. He has over 13 years of teaching experience duly recognized by the Dental Council of India as a Post Graduate Teacher. In the first of its kind of venture, he has set course to bring in Im- plantology as a discipline in the Dental Corps and his steadfast ap- proach has resulted in ushering in the era of Implantology in the Armed Forces. The recently con- cluded Implantology course con- sisting of eight modules benefitted more than 80 officers of Army, Navy and the Air Force in the R&R Dental Centre, which has been another milestone in the history of the Corps towards achieving professional ca- pability development. He has burnt midnight oil for numerous years to achieve what many of his contemporaries could just dream off. He has never tried to follow the laid down path. He has al- ways chosen his own path, however difficult it might be and has gone forward without looking back to fulfill his dreams. Lt. Gen Vimal Arora today stands in an envious position where he is the most sought after doctor by the patients and the beloved teacher of his stu- dents. Today, Lt. Gen Vimal Arora is the ‘highest ranking military officer in the World Dental fraternity’ and is commanding approximately 700 Dental Officers in uniform, techni- cally managing more than 1,500 Dental Surgeons employed in the Ex-Servicemen clinics all over the country along with the supporting staff of approximately 1,700 para- dental personnel. He has been ap- pointed the Colonel Commandant of the Army Dental Corps. He has also the rare distinction of being the ‘Honorary Dental Surgeon to the President of India’. He has been the proud recipient of the Presidents’ Award for the 3rd time in his professional career, when he was awarded the most prestigious and coveted award of ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ by the President of India, His Excellency Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee on the 26th Jan 2014. It is a befitting recognition of his professional ex- cellence, service to the nation and dedication and devotion to his duties as the Head of the Den- tal Services.
