The new offerings include the CariVu™ caries detection system that works with DEXIS software, DEXshield™ , a device to help reduce radiation dose to patients, and DEXIS Mac™ , a native Mac-based imaging software program. DEXIS CariVu DEXIS CariVu is a compact, portable caries detection device that uses unique, patented transillumination technology. This new product pro- vides the ability to easily detect a range of carious lesions (occlusal, interproximal, secondary/recur- rent,) and cracks, and it yields an easy-to-interpret image that is stored with the patient’s other images in the DEXIS software. The company asserts the technol- ogy behind CariVu offers an advan- tage in diagnosis of caries over sys- tems that rely on fluorescence reac- tions, which is typically denoted by colors or numeric values. In labora- tory testing, this new transillumina- tion device showed that the view of the lesions on the images correlated well with their actual physical condi- tions. Thus, with CariVu, the dentist gains a more accurate view of the actual carious lesion’s shape and size,notjustanindicationofthepres- ence of decay. DEXIS DEXshield DEXshield is a unique dental X-ray position-indicating device and a patented patient protective shield. When used in conjunction with the DEXIS Platinum Sensor, this new device not only reduces radiation to the patient, it also aids in proper positioning for image capture. DEXIS says it’s the only company to provide both an intra-oral sensor, DEXIS Platinum, and a shielded ring, DEX- shield, with the added benefit of dose reduction. In a laboratory setting, DEXshield plus the DEXIS Platinum sensor was determined to reduce absorbed dose by at least 30 percent as compared to the Universal Ring plus the DEXIS Platinum sensor, the company said. DEXIS Mac DEXIS Mac is an innovative dental imaging solution that offers dentists a unified experience across Mac and iOS products. Once released, the native OS X software will provide cli- nicians with a highly efficient digital imagingworkflowandseamlessinte- gration with leading Mac-based prac- tice-management programs Viive™ and MacPractice® . DEXIS Mac is scheduled to be formally introduced in the second quarter of this year. The DEXIS software will pro- vide an intuitive user interface and advanced functionality that Mac users expect — combined with tried- and-true DEXIS image management and enhancement tools, the company said. Plus, this solution brings the award-winning DEXIS Platinum sen- sor to Mac platform. A tight integration between DEXIS Mac, the award-winning DEXIS go® app for patient communication and the DEXIS photo™ app for extra-oral image acquisition will allow dentist to collectively operate on Mac, iPad® , iPhone® and iPod touch® .
