exhibitors10 Chicago Midwinter Meeting — Feb. 21, 2014 Ad By Fred Michmershuizen, today staff n Perhaps one of the more notewor- thy product introductions here at the Midwinter Meeting is the Planmeca PlanScan. The intraoral digital scan- ner, driven by E4D Technologies, is on display at the Henry Schein booth (No. 2419, 2617). The scanner is designed to be super easy, super accurate and super fast. The device — along with new soft- ware that is set to be unveiled in March — is all part of a larger strategy designed to offer dental practitioners “choices that connect,” according to Robert Gottlander, vice president of global prosthetic solutions at Henry Schein. “If we talk about digital dentistry within Henry Schein, our idea is that we want to work in open archi- tecture,” Gottlander said during an interview at the Henry Schein booth Thursday morning. “We want to have solutions that connect, choices that connect.” “We believe it is important to introduce digital technology into the practice and into the laboratory,” Gottlander said. “We think it is impor- tant not only to talk about technology, butwhatthetechnologycandoforthe patient — because in the end some- body has to be treated. So it’s not only about technology, but how to make this work in the practice, how can we make this work in the laboratory.” “We put a lot of effort into evalu- ating needs in the office and the laboratory, and then together with the profession come up with the best solution,” he said. What’s different about the Plan- Scan, Gottlander said, is that it is con- nected with the Romexis software, which means that one can offer treat- ment planning in a completely digital environment. He said it is especially valuable when working on implant cases. Gottlander said the reaction so far has been “very positive.” “Doctors want to buy technology for the office that they can combine,” he said. “What we see as our vision is to incorporate clinical software with practice management software, and all of this is to make it easier in the office,” he said. Planmeca makes strategic investment in E4D Technologies Planmeca recently announced it has made a non-controlling, stra- tegic investment in E4D Technolo- gies, developer of the E4D CAD/CAM Restorative System. This strategic investment rein- forces Planmeca’s on-going commit- menttohelpdentalprovidersimprove patient care by offering a comprehen- sive portfolio of integrated digital dental solutions for dentists and den- tal laboratories.
