A smart digital camera de- signed exclusively for use in den- tistry is the highlight of SHOFU’s boothatIDEMthisyear.Thewater andchemicalproofEyeSpecialCII has a resolution of 12 megapixels and comes with eight automated dental pre-set shooting modes, for applications ranging from routine intra-oral photography to ortho- dontic case presentations and use by dental technicians in the lab. Auto focus, zoom and built-in anti-shake features are supposed toallowdentalteamstoconstantly shoot precise clinical images. Un- like conventional digital dental camerasthatrequireexternallens or flash components, the Eye Spe- cial CII can be used used while holdingitinjustonehand,thecom- pany said. A LCD touchscreen dis- play and dental cropping gridlines addtothesimplehandling.Images taken with the camera can be transferredtoacomputer, tabletor smartphone via a wireless SD card to be discussed with the patient or archived with the Surefile photo management software. According toSHOFU,specialtrainingindental photography is not required. In addition to the Eye Special CII, SHOFU also has a number of restorative products on display. The universal direct aesthetic restorative Beautifil Injectable, forexample, wasdevelopedwitha unique resin micro-structure that is said to offer mechanical proper- ties for remarkable performance even in load bearing areas. According to the company, the pastehasidealviscosityandanon- tacky, non-droopy consistency for restorations that can be easily shaped as clinicians extrude the material from the syringe. Having optimised the filler-matrix com- plex, Beautifil Injectable controls lightdiffusionwithinitselfinsuch a way that is mimics the optical characteristics of natural teeth. A member of the Giomer family of restoratives, Beautifil Injectable also contains S-PRG fillers to pro- vide continuous fluoride protec- tion and unique antiplaque effect. It is available in 2.2 gram syringes that have disposable needle tips for cross infection control. SHOFU has also introduced BeautiSealant last year which is supposed to eliminate the need for a conventional phosphoric acid etchant completely. Based on SHOFU ’s proprietary S-PRG tech- nology with specially developed fluoride charged S-PRG fillers for a better anti-cariogenic effect, the product seals deep grooves and fissures. Sustained release and recharge of fluoride provides all round protection, particularly during the caries-prone years, the company said. The sealant comes with a self- etch primer containing dual adhe- sive monomers that penetrate into the pits and fissures on order to primethetoothsurfaceforaneffec- tive chemical bond to the sealant with minimal damage to enamel. AccordingtoSHOFU,theexclusionof HEMA in the formulation prevents hydrolysis at the bonding interface thus providing long-term stability and retention. An efficient, non- drip, fuss-free syringe design and an extra fine 27 gauge needle tip al- lowsprecisedeliveryofthesmooth, bubble-free sealant without the groovesgettingoverfilled.Beautifil is available as a set and refills. A-DEC, USA www.a-dec.com Booth 6F-01 business20 IDEM Singapore 2014—5 April A-DEC RECEIVES MORE AWARDS FOR DENTAL PRODUCTS The global provider of implant dentistry solutions Straumann hasannouncedthatitsinnovative implant material Roxolid will soon be available in all South East Asian markets. The new broad- ened Roxolid SLActive implant portfolio will be rolled out across the region by the end of 2014, the company said. At IDEM, Roxolid will be pre- sented for the first time on all diameters and all implant lines in Asia. Furthermore, Straumann will showcase a new 4 mm short line to overcome clinical cases with limited vertical space, as for severely atrophic jaw bone. All Roxolid SLActive implants feature the new Loxim transfer piece to simplify the handling. According to Straumann, the combination of the high mechani- cal strength of Roxolid with the advanced osseointegration prop- erties of the hydrophilic SLActive surface allows dental profession- als to avoid GBR procedures by choosing smaller sized implants which can reduce the invasive- ness of implant treatments and increase patient acceptance be- cause invasive grafting proce- durescanbeeliminated.Thisway, clinicians will be able to reduce treatment time, preserve vital peri-implant structures and de- crease post-surgical complica- tions. New implant patients can also be attracted to the practice by offering products that avoid the need for invasive and costly GBR procedures, the company added. All implants are covered by Straumann’s lifelong implant warranty. Composed of titanium and zir - conium, Roxolid was specifically designed for use in dental implan- tology. The material has been suc- cessfully used by clinicians world- wide during the last four years and, according to Straumann, the vast majority of them are fully convinced of the advantages of this innovation. Mechanical tests have demonstrated a significantly higher tensile strength of Roxolid compared to annealed or cold workedtitanium.Furthermore,dy - namic fatigue strength tests have demonstrated that i.e. Ø 3.3 mm Tissue Level Roxolid implants are stronger than Ø 4.1 mm Tissue Level Titanium implants and that Ø 4.1 mm Bone Level Roxolid im- plants are stronger than Ø 4.8 mm Bone Level Titanium implants. The outstanding performance ofSLActivewasalsodemonstrated in various pre-clinical and clinical studies. Roxolid implants have not only shown superior capabilities for osseointegration compared to TitaniumSLActiveimplants;these properties have were also demon- strated for the first time in a com- promised model.
