Dental Tribune South Africa Edition

4 Local News Dental Tribune South African Edition - December 2013 Chris Jenkins From the 7th to the 9th of November NOMADS 2013 was held at Vodacom World, Johannesburg and at the Westin, Cape Town. NOMADS is held yearly and is highly anticipated by both traders and dental professionals. NOMADS is one of the biggest dental conferences in South Africa that caters for not only dentists, endodontists, prosthodontists, periodontists and orthodontists but also dental assistants, dental therapists, oral hygienists, dental technicians and dental receptionists. The NOMADS Day essentially provides an all-round congress for all dental professionals to enhance their knowledge, skills and expertise through lectures presented by top international and South African speakers. The total number of attendees at NOMADS 2013 was 724 dental professionals and receptionists (Johannesburg and Cape Town combined). In addition, the exhibition at NOMADS is the largest dental exhibition in South Africa with a combined total of 61 exhibitors and 250 traders from both NOMADS exhibitions. The exhibition showcases the latest product lines that South Africa’s dental suppliers are able to supply into the dental market. It is also a great opportunity for traders to get valuable face time with their clients as well as to broach new clients. During the lunch breaks and break periods the trader’s stands were substantially crowded and most, if not all traders felt that NOMADS 2013 was a success. The speaker line up at NOMADS 2013 was equally as impressive as the number of attendees and exhibition. With a world class line up of international key note speakers and top local speakers the delegates were treated to exceptional lectures. The international key-note speakers included: Dr Wilhelm Pertot (France), Dr Eduardo Mahn (Chile), Dr Stephan Lampl (Austria), Dr Nick Russon (UK), Dr Alasdair McKelvie (UK). The experience and expertise of the speakers is reflected by the publishing of numerous books and articles across the world as well as speaking at a host of congresses worldwide. The key-note speakers spoke on a wide range of topics including endodontics, esthetic dentistry and implantology and dental technology to name a few. NOMADS Day – South Africa 2013 Lectures were well attended by the delegates. Dr Eduardo Mahn of Chile presenting his lecture on Bulk Filling - Changing the Paradigm of Composite Layering. The venues for both the Johannesburg and Cape Town NOMADS were once again exceptional; Vodacom World in Midrand where the ITI Congress Southern Africa 2013 was held and the Westin in Cape Town where the 2013 Cape Dental Show was held earlier this year. Both venues provide excellent catering, service and world class professionalism when hosting congresses.
