Dental Tribune U.S. Edition

XXXXX Dental Tribune U.S. Edition | September 2013A6 mEEtiNgS Ad maxillofacial surgeons and their staff to learn and discuss the features, value and benefit of various exhibitors’ products. It is scheduled specifically so as not to con- flict with the timing of any continuing education sessions. Again, there is no fee, but attendance is limited. Individual session tickets are required for all clinical and hands-on courses. Daily passes are required for admission to practice clinics and professional allied staff courses. Tickets and passes are obtained by sub- mitting a completed registration form online, by mail or via fax. Clinical courses Tickets are required for all clinical courses, and attendance for each clinical course is limited. Attendance is deter- mined on a first-come, first-served reg- istration basis. AAOMS fellows/members will be given first priority. When register- ing for these clinics, indicate your choice in order of preference in the space pro- vided on the registration form. Tickets may also be purchased on site, subject to space availability. New day pass option New in 2013 is a day pass for practice management and allied staff sessions. The day pass lets practitioners and their team members attend as many practice management/allied staff sessions as their schedule will allow for one daily registration fee. That eliminates the per- course fees that can limit your program options. With the new day pass, each team member pays one flat fee for un- limited choices, including: morning and afternoon sessions; a variety of topics that address the unique needs of a prac- tice; and a diverse and renowned faculty of experts eager to share knowledge. All registrants must pay the general reg- istration fee in addition to the day pass cost. Seating for these events is on a first- come, first-served basis. Fun for entire family The meeting’s host city, of course, is well known for its abundance of theme parks, some of which will be hosting meeting social activities. Universal Orlando Re- sort will host the 2013 President's Event on Friday, Oct. 11. From 7–9 p.m., The Promenade of Universal CityWalk will provide dinner and beverage buffet sta- tions and live music. At 9 p.m., guests will move to Islands of Adventure for exclusive access to the rides and attrac- tions, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Attendees will be able to explore Hogwarts castle and the shops of Hogsmeade. Rides include the Dragon Challenge, Flight of the Hippogriff and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. (Source: American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons) It sounds like a theme park attraction, but SimWars at the upcoming Ameri- can Association of Oral and Maxillofa- cial Surgeons meeting isn’t just fun and games — it’s a serious competition that advances operatory emergency skills that save lives. It’s too late to register a team for the 2013 competition, which takes place on the second day of the Anesthesia Update preconference program at the meeting. But there’s still plenty of time to make sure you’re in the SimWars audience, which can be almost as exciting as being a competitor. SimWars is an unscripted, simulated competition in which anesthesia teams work together to save the “patient” in an emergency situation. Following each simulation encounter, a panel reviews the scenario and debriefs the team. The audience participates via an electronic response system. The overall experience is described by meeting organizers as “an exciting, interactive event” for the teams and audience alike. The 3.5-hour SimWars program in- cludes an airway station, demonstration of various advanced airway devices with hands-on experience and two simula- tion stations where the participants will execute management of simulated emer- gencies in real time. To make the best use of the available time, participants are provided with a list of the “mock” drugs and equipment that will be available. To learn more about the 2013 SimWars, or to see if you can still sign up as a sub- stitute, contact the AAOMS continuing education and professional development division at conteducate@aaoms.org or at (847) 233-4377. Visit www.aaoms.org/ orlando for overall meeting registration information. Product theater in exhibit hall The overall meeting is from Oct. 7–12 in Orlando, Fla., at the Orange County Con- vention Center West and Peabody Orlan- do hotel. The exhibit hall is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 10 and 11, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. A member pavilion in the exhibit hall is open during those same hours. In the pavilion you can learn more about AAOMS resources and services, includ- ing its career line, Also in the exhibit hall, there will be Corporate Forums, which provide an op- portunity to see, learn and discuss how the latest technologies and services can benefit your oral and maxillofacial sur- gery practice. Corporate Forum presen- tations are open to all annual meeting registrants. There is no fee, but space is limited.
