Presented during the AACD’s annual meeting held in June in Seattle, USA, the award was accepted by George Tysowsky, DDS, MPH, Vice President of Technology of Ivoclar Vivadent Inc., USA, in recognition of Ivoclar Vivadent’s impact, improvement and advancement in the field of cosmetic and restorative dentistry through its IPS e.max restorative system. “This is a tremendous honour,” commented Robert A. Ganley, CEO of Ivoclar Vivadent. “We all know that IPS e.max is a game changer, but sharing centre stage with the Academy and its members during the annual session validates the impact of our innovation. I am so proud of our people and products.” A-Dec LED design recognized with prestigious Red Dot Award The A-dec LED dental light received the distinguished red dot award for excellence in product design. The prestigious industrial design honour is selected by an international jury in Essen, Germany. “The winners of the red dot award are the leaders of a highly developed design culture and design industry,” says red dot CEO Peter Zec. “These product creations stand alone in terms of original design and product quality.” The A-dec LED was selected among 4,662 entries from 54 countries. The selection process includes testing, discussion, and evaluation. Jurors are composed of 37 design peers with extensive experience in aesthetic form, engineering, and manufacturing. Winning products are displayed in the red dot design museum in Essen. With about 2,000 exhibits—from inventive USB flash drives to a hanging helicopter—the museum houses the world’s largest presentation of contemporary design and is visited by 180,000 international guests each year. From a design standpoint, the A-dec LED light is recognized for its clean distinctive form, intuitive functionality, and smart use of materials. The product’s aesthetic is noted for its restrained use of extraneous styling elements. Its elegant and precise mode indicators, matte aluminum finish and elimination of functional clutter create a clean, refined look not typically found with operatory lights. In terms of performance, the A-dec LED light has been well received by dentists because of its overall illuminance, maneuverability, control, low cost of ownership, and ability to keep clean. In the U.S., A-dec was also awarded the 2012 Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for Medical & Scientific Products.
