nDemand from the public for an im- proved smile is on the increase. More of our patients are aware that having a great smile is no longer restricted to celebrities. However, they are also in- creasingly aware that the preparation of teeth for crowns and veneers can have a significant biological and finan- cial cost. Many also have objections to conventional orthodontic treatment, due to the visibility of braces and lengthy treatment times. Within the dental community and among orthodontists, fixed braces are widelyrecognizedasthemosteffective and efficient method of straightening teeth, giving the most predicable re- sult. The Six Month Smiles Short-Term Orthodontic System is a system de- signed specifically for General Den- tists to meet the needs of patients who have crooked, misaligned or spaced teeth. Most cases can be completed in an average of just six months, using unique clear braces and tooth colored wires. Thesystem,likealigners,iscos- metically focused—it is not a replace- ment for conventional orthodontics. The goals of treatment are not as com- prehensive but it provides an alterna- tive for adults who have declined con- ventional orthodontic treatment. The short treatment times are pos- sible for two primary reasons: • Cosmetically focused treatment goals • Unique and specific brackets and wires. The short-term orthodontic brack- ets are pre-positioned at the Six Month Smiles case processing facil- ityandplacedinclearbondingtrays. This makes bracket placement ex- tremely fast, predictable and com- fortable. The Six Month Smiles Sys- tem utilizes tooth colored archwires andclearbrackets, bothofwhichare very patient-friendly because they are barely visible. These inconspicu- ous appliances, together with the shorttreatmenttimes, overcomethe usualobjectionspatientshavewhen considering traditional orthodontic therapy. The Six Month Smiles Patient Tray KitsTM contains all the brack- ets, wires and accessories a dentist requires to complete a particular patient’s treatment. This system- ized aspect of the process makes it remarkably easy for General Den- tists to implement, regardless of their orthodontic experience. Many treatments are possible using the Six Month Smiles System. It can be used to: • Alleviate crowding, overlapped, ro- tated teeth and high canines • Correct anterior cross bites • Close spaces • Treatopenbitesofdento-alveolarori- gin • Level the gingival zeniths • Treat deep bites • Over-erupt teeth destined to be re- placed with implants to increase the bone available for placement • Provide rounded arches, free of crowding, for future veneer prepara- tion. However, Six Month Smiles is not generally used to treat the following conditions: • Correction of molar relationships and posterior bite discrepancies • Largeopenbitesandthoseofskeletal origin • Bilateral cross bites • Midline discrepancies.
