A5Dental Tribune U.S. Edition | February 2013 Carefree Resort & Conference Center, in association with the Dental Implant Clini- cal Research Group and Midwestern Uni- versity College of Dental Medicine. The theme of the meeting was “Implant Update — 2012,” and it featured a number of top dental clinicians. Podium speakers at the meeting were Drs. Robert J. Braun, Edward M. Feinberg, Leonard I. Linkow, Harold F. Morris, Paul M. Mullasseril, Wil- liam D. Nordquist, and Christopher Torre- grossa. Dr. M. Joe Mehranfar was general chairperson of the meeting and Dr. Mah- moud F. Nasr served as moderator. Major dental implant manufacturers and several outstanding dental laborato- ries exhibited at the meeting Dr. Leonard I. Linkow, considered by many of his colleagues as the “Father of Oral Implantology,” presented “Five De- cades of Dental Implants.” In 1992, New York University College of Dentistry creat- ed the first and only endowed chair in im- plantology in perpetuity with Dr. Linkow as the recipient. Dr. Robert J. Braun, professor of oral and maxillofacial pathology, medicine and surgery at Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, spoke on “Sys- temic Implications of Oral Disease and its Relation to Oral Implantology.” Dr. Edward M. Feinberg, director of the Westchester Academy of Restorative Den- tistry, spoke on “The Precision Attach- ment Case for Implants.” Dr. Harold F. Morris, co-director of the Dental Implant Clinical Research Group and clinical professor of restorative den- tistry at Temple University School of Den- tistry, Philadelphia, covered “Recent Ad- vances in Implant Research.” Dr. Paul M. Mullasseril, associate pro- fessor and chairperson of the division of restorative dentistry at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, dis- cussed “Mini Dental Implants — Where Are We Today?” Dr. William D. Nordquist, who lectures worldwide and performs live-surgery seminars in the United States and coun- tries across Asia, discussed “Saving Ailing and Failing Implants.” Mr. Christopher Torregrossa, director of the dental practice group at Price Kong CPAs and Consultants, covered “Protect- ing Your Practice From Theft and Embez- zlement.” Dr. Irving F. McKenzie, interim dean of the school of oral health sciences, Univer- sity of Technology, Jamaica, was awarded his AAIP Mastership and a plaque for his assistance with and participation in AAIP/ ADIS implant C.E. seminars in Jamaica. About the Academy of Implant Prosthodontics Founded by Dr. Maurice J. Fagan, Jr., in 1982 at the School of Dentistry, Medical Col- lege of Georgia, the Academy of Implant Prosthodontics exists to support and fos- ter the practice of implant prosthodontics as an integral component of dentistry. The academy supports component and affiliate implant associations around the world, including organizations in Egypt, France, Italy, Israel, Jamaica, Jordan, Ka- zakhstan, Paraguay, Russia and Thailand. The academy has published two text- books, “The Dental Implant” in 1985 and “Implant Prosthodontics” in 1990. The Journal of Oral Implantology is the official publication of the academy. The academy also publishes a newsletter. American Academy of Implant Prosth- odontics is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program pro- vider are accepted by AGD for fellowship, mastership and membership mainte- nance credit.
