Fox™ (semicon- ductor diode laser), which have produced good results with patient satisfaction. Case report one A 22 year old female patient visited the department of Peri- odontics, Krishnadevaraya College of Dental sciences, Bangalore with the chief com- plaint of “blackish gum”. The medical history was non-con- tributory. Intra-oral examination re- vealed generalised blackish pigmentation of the gingiva, however it was healthy and completely free of any inflam- mation. Considering the patient’s concern, a laser depigmenta- tion procedure was planned. Procedure Diode Laser (A.R.C. Fox™) with wavelength of 810nm was selected for the procedure. No topical or local anaesthesia was given to the patient. Mela- nin pigmented gingiva were ablated by diode laser vapori- zation with a flexible ,hollow- fibre delivery system with a non-contact, air cooling hand- piece, under standard protec- tive measures. The procedure was performed on all pig- mented areas. Remnants of the ablated tissue were removed using sterile gauze damped with saline. This procedure was repeated until the desired depth of tissue removal was achieved. Analgesics and chlo- rhexidine 0.2 per cent mouth- wash were prescribed. Case report two A 24 year old female patient visited the department of Periodontics, Krishnadevar- aya College of Dental scienc- es, Bangalore with the chief complaint of “blackish gum”. The medical history was non- contributory. Intra-oral ex- amination revealed general- ised blackish pigmentation of the gingiva, however it was healthy and completely free of any inflammation. Considering the patient’s concern, a laser depigmenta- tion procedure was planned. Procedure The depigmentation was per- formed identically to the first case. Analgesics and chlorhex- idine 0.2 per cent mouthwash were prescribed. Results No post-operative pain, haem- orrhage, infection or scarring occurred in first and subse- quent visits. Healing was un- eventful. Patient’s acceptance of the procedure was good and results were excellent as per- ceived by the patient.
