xxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx RECIPROC® Files: helping you save £00’s if not £000’s a year! RECIPROC, from Quality Endodontic Distributors Ltd, is a new concept in canal preparation. It can help you save £00’s if not £000’s per year! RECIPROC® is the first one file system where no glide path is required (in most cases). It works with a reciprocating action which is driven through the VDW Silver RECIPROC® motor, which can also be used with conventional rotary file systems. If you use ProTaper and perform 100 endodontic procedures a year, by switching to Reciproc you will save £1,000 per year. If you do considerably more, just imagine what you could do with the money you’d be saving! RECIPROC® is made from M-wire™ NiTi which is stronger and more flexible than standard NiTi.There are three files in the range which all have a regressive taper, which means that the apical portion of the file has the greatest taper. The RECIPROC® file sizes are R25 (08/25), R40 (06/40) and R50 (05/50). Each of which is available in lengths 21, 25 and 31mm. The system also has matching gutta-percha and paper points. RECIPROC® is exclusive to Quality Endodontic Distributors Limited. With a workflow that is familiar to film users, but faster and more efficient, the CS 7600’s advanced plate imaging technology integrates smoothly into any dental practice. It combines the considerable advantages of digital with the usability of film. The system’s thin, wireless plates, which are available in the same sizes as film, are identified electronically and the information is directed to the appropriate computer and patient file automatically. The first image can be taken in as little as five seconds, and Ethernet connectivity ensures immediate access to the images from any PC. Once data is taken from the card it is automatically wiped for reuse. A compact size allows the CS 7600 to find a home in any practice set up. The transition from film to digital imaging is simple and cost-effective with CS 7600, which provides high quality images with a truly automated and secure workflow. In May 2012, there was a major Legionella outbreak thought to be caused from cooling towers in the Edinburgh region. What the Edinburgh case shows us is that while Legionnaires’ disease can be fatal, it is a disease that is wholly preventable. Unfortunately, lack of awareness and training, inadequate control measures and management failings are all contributing factors to outbreaks of the disease. In response to the growing demand for Legionella training in dental practices, the dbg has developed the COSHH and Legionella Awareness Course that sets out what is required under current UK legislation, gives advice on the control of Legionella bacteria, and outlines potential risk areas within the dental environment to include areas of compliance according to the various Legionella regulations including the Health and Safety at Work etc Act (1974), COSHH (2002) and HTM 01-05. PracticeSafe Soak, an impression disinfectant, is available in 1L ,5L and 10L containers. Buy the 1L dispenser for only £21.71 + VAT until the end of July! Infection prevention and control is the single most important task that all the dental team are involved in. It is important to emphasise that infection prevention and control is the responsibility of everyone. CQC and the HTM guidelines recommend that impressions are always soaked immediately after removal from the mouth. The mouth and saliva are ideal places for bugs. They have a warm moist environment, making it easy for the bugs to be passed to the dentist/dental technician and then onto further patients. PrcticeSafe Soak needs only 3 minutes to disinfect bacteria, fungi and viruses. This disinfectant concentrate is dispensed from the container with a required volume to make a three per cent solution, eg for a 1 litre soak, 30 ml would be dispensed. New software update supports the hands-free operation of the SIROEndo endodontic treatment system Version 5.2 of Sirona Dental Systems’ SIROEndo software is the passport to more effective and convenient root canal treatment. As soon as the dentist reaches the apex he can reverse the rotation of the file – either on the SIROEndo unit or via the foot control. Just one brief touch is enough to change from clockwise to counterclockwise rotation and vice versa. Introduced six months ago, the new apex indicator keeps the user informed at all times. The exponential progress bar now consists of 18 blocks as opposed to six. It indicates the distance between the file tip and the apex. When the file tip reaches the apex an “A” is displayed. The message “-1” is shown as soon as the tip extends beyond the apex. This is accompanied by differentiated acoustic signals. A series of short beeps can be heard as the file approaches the apex. This changes to a continuous tone when the file tip goes beyond the apex. “Since the launch of SIROEndo at IDS 2005 we have continuously developed the software,”said AnjaWeidemann, Product Manager in the Instruments Division of Sirona Dental Systems.
