The warm vertical technique us- ing gutta-percha or resin with an appropriate sealing agent provides a thorough seal of the well-cleansed and shaped canal spaces. The fi- nal restoration must provide a proper seal of the pulp cham- ber to prevent coronal micro- leakage. Current evidence has dem- onstrated that we can retreat previously endodontically treated teeth properly and suc- cessfully. The literature has also shown that specific bac- teria, such as E. faecalis, are able to survive inside a previ- ously filled canal. The use of a dental operating microscope, ultrasonic instruments, irri- gants, rotary NiTi files and ap- propriate obturation materials increases our ability to attain healing after retreatment. As we continue to strive to main- tain healthy natural teeth for our patients, endodontic re- treatment should be the pri- mary option for patients with post-treatment disease.
