26 Event Preview United Kingdom Edition January 16-22, 2012 T he Clinical Innovations Conference has be- come a major event in the dentistry calendar. Now in its ninth year, this estab- lished event gives participants a chance to hear from world- class speakers from around the globe who will be present- ing a host of lectures and live workshops. The event looks set to be inspirational and mo- tivating for all involved. This year the conference will be held in the Millen- nium Gloucester, Kensing- ton in London on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th of May 2012. With a varied sched- ule throughout the confer- ence, participants will have an opportunity to understand and learn how to apply the latest aesthetic developments through practical experi- ence, and to attain treatment tips that can immediately be introduced to everyday practice. The conference meets the GDC’s educational criteria and delegates who attend both days will gain 14 hours of ver- ifiable CPD certified by Smile- On Ltd. The event is not just an opportunity to gain price- less experience but a chance to encounter experienced speakers. Confirmed speak- ers for the conference include Professor Nasser Barghi, Dr Wyman Chan, Dr Richard S Kahan and Professor Gianluca Gambarini. Professor Barghi is head of the aesthetic dentistry divi- sion in the Department of Re- storative Dentistry at the Uni- versity of Texas, San Antonio. He has presented more than 650 educational courses and empiric workshops in more than 30 countries, written more than 250 articles and ab- stracts and conducted exten- sive research into the bond- ing of new cosmetic materials and etched porcelain-bonded restorations. He is a member of the American Academies of both Esthetic Dentistry and Fixed Prosthodontics, and the International Association for Dental Research. Dr Chan is a teeth whit- ening specialist who has en- gaged with the entire major home and surgery whiten- ing systems and conducted research which has led to the granting of five UK pat- ents. Widely acknowledged as an expert in this field, by combining research with his experience of thousands of patients, he has developed protocols that improve the safety, predictability and ef- ficacy of teeth whitening pro- cedures. A prolific author on this subject, he is responsible for a chapter in the new Quin- tessence manual “The Art of Treatment Planning.” Dr Kahan is a Harley Street specialist and the senior visit- ing lecturer on endodontology at the Eastman Dental Insti- tute, UCL where he teaches postgraduate specialist students as well as GPs. A highly regarded lecturer na- tionwide, his other interest is dental IT integration, and he has recently created Endo- biz, a clinical software pro- gramme currently undergoing beta testing. Professor Gambarini has lectured in universities all over the world and is the au- thor of or has contributed to 450 scientific books, articles or other publications. His special interest focuses on en- dodontic materials and clini- cal processes and he has been the keynote speaker at major national and international en- dodontic congresses on all five continents, including those of the AAE, IFEA and ESE. He is currently working with manu- facturers in several countries to develop new technologies and clinical procedures for root canal treatment. The conference is organ- ised in association with The Dental Directory and the AOG, which was founded in 1981 at the former London Hospi- tal Medical College in Wh- itechapal by a group of Anglo- Asian students who wanted to share knowledge and support. They now represent one of the largest demographic commu- nities within in the UK den- tal profession. The AOG are family and charity orientated, maintaining strong links with a number of charities working in Africa and India. An exam- ple is the Chikaroot Project, which provides free dental treatment to over 500 families in the Madhya Pradesh region of India. Apart from the opportunity to listen to experts in the field, there is a chance to debate, participate in question and answer sessions and attend the AOG Clinical Innovations Charity Ball, a great oppor- tunity to relax and network. The AOG Clinical Innovations Charity Ball will be held on the Friday evening for the third year running. In 2011, more than 200 people attend- ed and enjoyed a festive oc- casion of wonderful food and entertainment. The Clinical Innovations Conference is always well at- tended.
