Many practices providing bespoke private dentistry now like to give patients a ‘before’ and ‘after’ treatment photo, par- ticularly after a smile makeover or orthodontic treatment where results are most impressive. If presented in a smart frame or customised album it will look more professional. The added bonus being that they are likely to show their gift to others and, in so doing, give you free public- ity and direct recommendation. Little things like sending pa- tients a branded card for their birthday will not go unappreci- ated. You have their date of birth so it’s merely a matter of setting up a system. Many practices now have a branded greeting card or postcard printed along with their stationery, which can be used for all manner of occasions. Do you have a system for thanking pa- tients for recommendations? A card may suffice or can accom- pany a gift such as flowers or a token of some kind. Practices who welcome chil- dren might like to extend the gift idea to branded badges, stickers, balloons and what child would not welcome a cute branded teddy bear? The children you see now could be your patients of the future if their early dental experience with you is reward- ing and happy. Within the practice too, don’t think design stops at literature and stationery. Branded cups, glasses, name badges, pens, memo blocks all look profes- sional and strengthen the look. What about the team uniforms? Are they contemporary, stylish and flattering? Do they match the brand colours and feature the logo, either embroidered or on a name badge? There are many avenues to explore so think of the big brands and emulate some of their ideas. Take Apple comput- ers and their meteoric success. Such a company may well be a world away from your practice but simply observing its unwa- vering attention to brand design can serve as inspiration. It’s time to think outside the box. Like it or not, design is eve- rywhere nowadays and to max- imise the opportunities that are yours for the taking, it’s vital you consider the design of eve- rything in your practice and set about getting it just right.
