Now however, looks and efficacy have been combined in the ZirconiaFC: a full contoured solid zirconia crown or bridge restoration with no porcelain overlay. Full Contour Zirconia has been clinically proven to be significantly more durable than feldspathic porcelain, whilst causing far less wear to the antagonistic teeth. These unique properties make it the ideal solution for bruxism sufferers, who may find that traditional porcelain crowns break easily or that metal restorations cause damage to the surrounding dentition. Virtually unbreakable and chip proof, ZirconiaFC is an aesthetically pleasing alternative to full metal crowns for use on the posterior teeth. Made by the expert technicians at the CosTech Elite® laboratory, ZirconiaFC is produced using CAD/CAM technology, which means that it fits every patient every time. This extraordinary course introduced the simple yet highly effective cosmetic dentistry treatments that any GDP can offer to any of their patients. Accessible Aesthetics took place at London’s Royal College of Surgeons and demonstrated low risk and highly profitable procedures for a totally non- invasive smile makeover. Participants learned how to implement cosmetic dentistry into their practice, whiten teeth properly and use photography effectively, as well as techniques for marketing procedures to patients. The message of the course was clear: every dentist has the capability to offer cosmetic dentistry, so don’t get left behind. Incorporate the procedures that patients are calling out for and stay competitive. Accessible Aesthetics was created by Next Step Seminars, the expert team who are also behind Straight Talk Seminars, the only training provider in the UK to offer certification in the Inman Aligner‘rapid orthodontics’system. The part-time course is a dissertation module that follows successful completion of both the certificate and diploma in restorative dental practice. Dentists are required to carry out highly topical practice-based research on a subject related to restorative dentistry and they have the convenient option of undertaking this within their own dental practice. Support is available from accomplished UCL Eastman Dental Institute staff who provide supervision and support. Attendance at a Clinical Research Methodology course lasting three - four days is required, and this provides all the necessary tools for undergoing an original research project, which will culminate in a 10,000-15,000-word, in- depth dissertation. The MSc programme runs every year and places are highly sought-after, so dentists are advised to register their interest without delay. Applications will be accepted up to 30 September 2011, subject to availability, for commencement in January 2012. UCL Eastman gives busy dental practitioners the flexibility to fit stimulating and rewarding further education around their work schedule, broadening their skills and widening the range of services they can offer to patients. Once ensconced in a practice, with all the responsibilities that entails, it is easy to give up on the pursuit of extra credentials that could make you stand out from the crowd. However, the internet has made it easier than ever before for busy, working dental professionals to attain an additional qualification by studying in their spare time. Together with their partners at the University of Manchester, Smile-On has created an MSc course in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry. There are three residential sessions over the two years alongside the course’s web-based platform, giving dentists access to seminars and tutorials given by world-renowned experts. For the past 11 years, Smile-on has been at the forefront of part-time continuing education for dental health professionals. Their online MSc is one of their proudest achievements to date, and any dentist looking to enter the field of restorative and aesthetic dental work would be well-advised to enrol themselves on the course.
