The CEREC system enables dentists to create all- ceramic restorations directly in-house. During a single treatmentsession,theycanacquiredigitalimpressions of the patient’s teeth as a basis for designing patient- specific crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers and temporary bridges. In just a few minutes, these restorations can be machined out of ceramic blocks with the aid of the CEREC MC XL milling unit, ready for immediate place- ment.Thenewsoftwareprovidesclearandcomprehen- sibleguidanceatalltimes. _Intuitive user guidance via the phase and step bars The new software generation goes a step further towards streamlining the design process. The system guides the user step-by-step through the entire pro- ductionprocess.Forthispurpose,thesoftwareemploys a clearly structured graphical element, the phase bar, that indicates exactly which design phase the user has reached. The software functions and options adapt themselvesdynamicallyastheworkproceeds.Theuser interfaceremainsclearanduncluttered,andonlythose itemsthatarerelevantaredisplayedatanygiventime. _Manually adjustable biogeneric occlusal surfaces Itgoeswithoutsayingthatthenew-generationsoft- ware automatically creates patient-specific occlusal surfaces. Based on an intact tooth, the patented bio- generic design function identifies the patient’s typical morphological characteristics and then generates an initial restoration proposal. The user can then modify this proposal with the aid of the new biogeneric variation tool. For cases in which the user wishes to make manual adjustments, Sirona has developed a completely new and intuitiveinterfaceconcept:CERECSW4.0anti- cipates the user’s needs and projects the rele- vantdesigntoolsdirectlyontotherestoration. Thisminimisessearchtimesandmousemove- ment. By simply clicking the appropriate tool and holding down the mouse button, the user can work directly on the tooth.
