T he man who was the first UK dentist to intro- duce the practice of por- celain veneers almost 30 years ago has been recognised by his peers and presented with a life- time achievement award from Linda Greenwall Chairman of the British Dental Bleaching Society. Dr Mervyn Druian is known as a leader, lecturer and innovator in cosmetic and preventive dentistry and was the first UK dentist to com- plete the Aesthetic Advantage Programme at the Advanced level with Dr Larry Rosenthal in New York. Once Mervyn had completed the programme, he was then instrumental in set- ting up the programme with Dr Larry Rosenthal in the UK, running courses for dentists in Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry and Mervyn is the UK arm of Larry’s elite team of instruc- tors. In 1983 Mervyn caused a phenomenon in UK dentistry when he introduced porcelain veneers to the British public. Since then, he has become of the world’s leading experts in cosmetic and aesthetic work and is in great demand as a teacher and lecturer around the globe. Often dubbed “the leading expert in cosmetic dentistry ” by beauty editors, Mervyn was the principle den- tist on the successful reality TV show, Extreme Makeovers UK and he is the dentist be- hind many recognisable, fa- mous and beautiful smiles. In 1990 Mervyn introduced the first power whitening system into the UK and has become a leading exponent of in-surgery tooth whitening. Born and educated in South Africa, Mervyn is the co- founder, with Dr Ken Spektor of The London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry , a mul- tifaceted dental practice that specialises in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. A mem- ber of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), Mervyn is currently on the ed- itorial board of Private Dentist- ry and Dental Aesthetics and is also on a number of advisory committees of the British Den- tal Association (BDA). In 2007 Dr Mervyn Druian’s work re- ceived one of the highest ac- colades when he was placed on the distinguished American Academy of Cosmetic Dentist- ry’s (AACD) Presidents Hon- our Role. Currently Mervyn serving a second term as Interna- tional Director for Alpha Omega and is alsoa Gover- nor of the Tel Aviv Univer- sity. Since June 2004 has been Clinical Director Aesthetic Advantage Programme at the EastmanDental Hospital in London. DT BDBS honours Dr Mervyn Druian
